I don't really know how to describe the noise to be honest.. It's usually when the weather is warm or the car has had bit of a blast..

The best way i can describe the noise is something like a miniature steam engine.. tsssst tsssst tsssst tsssst or tig, tig, tig, tig  It does it while idling, increases with throttle even when stationery.

From trying to source the noise it seems to be from the engine bay.. somewhere near the bottom so I am always drawn to thinking it's some sort of leak in a downpipe or something. It never seems to happen when i get home so never get a chance to investigate properly. After the engine has sat for a while it will start fine.

It makes the car sound really rough and is very obvious over the normal diesel noises.
Oil is fine, water is fine (still no leaks since using k-seal). It's been doing this occasionally for a couple years now. Temperature gauge is always normal.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

2.0 TDI 140 with GIAC remap (used to do it before the remap).
