Today i was looking at the technical spec of the AQX and AYP engines.

The only difference is that AYP is emission spec EU2/EU3 and AQX is D4 Standard.

Also it states that AYP and AQX engines DO have variable valve timing.

Not like the leons. IIRC the leons have a solenoid on the side of the head. I think it will be operated by oil pressure.

I will let you know as iam replacing my cam chain tensioner today.

Not sure.....

058 109 021 M intake camshaft ARY, AUQ, AMK, BAM (leon)
058 109 022 B exhaust camshaft AMK, ARY, AUQ, BAM (leon)
058 109 021 B intake camshaft AQX AYP (ibiza)
058 109 022 B exhaust camshaft AQX AYP (ibiza)

So the intake cams are not the same, exhaust are though

No obvious solenoid on the diagrams though.

Its just what the seat technical specs say on elsa.

The cam chain tensioner is oil fed, so it has a constantly adjusting oil pressure going to it. I think it does have some sort of VVT just not as advanced as the Leons etc.

Have u got the part number for the cam chain tensioner?.... as i have a slight rattle to the right of the cam cover? im assumming its that?:p

Both DO have it according to seat information.
Part Number is 058 109 217

Dont attempt to do this your self if your unsure how to do it, as it requires the removal of Cambelt, and Camshafts and timing the cams up is a fiddle even when you have the instructions infront of you.

Iam not saying this is true, but information direct from Seat says they do.

Operated by oil pressure rather than an solenoid as on Leons.

surely it cant be that hard?....i mean if uve done a cam belt change before should be quite easy?, i mean cam pully will have timing mark on it and so will the crank, only thing im unsure about is the other cam? is there any timing marks for that as it runs off the chain?......a guide would be nice:whistle:

Cambelt is easy. ams are tricky to time up. The cams, chain and tensioner need to be installed at the same time as it is not possible to remove chain or tensioner whilst cams are in place.

There are timing marks on cams and bearing caps, but chain has to be so from 1 timing mark to the other should be 16 linksof the chain.

Only attempt this if your confident as a mistake would be very costly.

From what i know, which isnt much, its not VVT as such because the timing dosnt actually change, its more fixed varible cam postion. cant explain exactly but it is what i have been told.

not 100% on it but i do have a AYP engine so i im intersted to know what it is and how it works.
