FIRST time posting so bare with me

after going through a lot of the posts, my sony stereo doesnt save its settings after taking the key out the ignition

the wiring set up is as follows:

from the stereo- red and yellow joining into the main yellow cable which links to the battery (i think),

then the red cable(not connected to stereo) is just sitting by itself connected to nothing

this is the only way the stereo will power up at all, i have tried many combinations but it still wont save or turn on?

please help

Hi, you need a probe light or a wiring diagram mate so you can find the permenat live and ignition live, then either red will go to permenant and yellow to ignition, or other way round.... if you havent got a probe or wiring diagram or multimeter, you could make a probe light with a bulb, bulb holder and some wire but be careful lol

Try connecting red with yellow and yellow with red, iirc they are swapped round on the seat, the fact you loosing your settings is saying you cut all power to the unit and the fact both cables are connected to yellow would suggest that it is intact the switched live.
