I'm sure I'm not the only sooty that's suffering with a permanently black tailgate.

This is fine. Part of the deal when you de-DPF. However, I have yet to find a wax that's up to the challenge of soot landing on it. Everything else I've been able to just wipe off with a microfibre. But the soot seems to burn straight through the wax. Any tips?

I have tryed verious things also like u said it just burns through the wax and goes straight onto the car if u find something let me know.

I have just accepted its part of owning a good old tdi

Hmm...don't you just hate it when someone just confirms your worst thoughts :) heheh

My detailed almost cried when he saw the back just 2 days after being fully detailed

Have you ever tried FinishKare 1000P as its heat resistant wax ive just ordered some for my wheels but lots of people seem to use it as a allover wax

Let me know the results please not spending no more penny's on diffrent waxs now lmao spent a fortune all ready hahhaha

Isn't it part of the chemical make up of wax that carbon will adhere to it? Think of how easily the soot from a candle wick can discolour the wax itself. Perhaps a synthetic sealant would do a better job?

The product mentioned above is actually a sealant. 100% synthetic. Problem solved :)

But otherwise, yes agreed. The wax actually makes the soot stick more if anything. It's well awkward. I considered not waxing the back.

I use Britemax Extreme Elements and dont have that much of an issue with the tailgate.

Fish

I just get excited when it comes to sealants. I'll sit back down lol :)

Haha! Do you often find yourself in the garage, naked, with a bottle of sealant?

I'll give one of these a try, or hell..I'll get all three and split the tailgate into 3 sections to test them :) I can even leave the divider tape on, as it will get so covered in soot you won't see it anyway :D

Me too. Anyone still using waxes is nuts. Even though I wax over the top of the sealant

That opti coat you said about vromm looks very good is this what you use.

I coat just about everything in it. Cars, wheels, glass. Its easy to use, and provides excellent protection. My sisters scirocco has it on, and it wasn;t washed from July last year, til two weeks ago. A simple jet wash removed almost all the dirt from the wheels

I wax over sealant as well.... for shame.

The opticoat says not to use it on glass. I guess b0ll0cks to that? :)

It does seem to be something you apply right after the car has just been polished,as they say it's a permanent solution.
May be an idea for the next time the Leon's in for a full paint renovation in a year or so. Then apply this stuff. Then wax over it
