Sound quality from RNS 315?

I'm currently using a rcd 510 DAB and not very happy with the sound even after a speaker upgrade. Looking at options but want to try and keep it double din, OEM and still have DAB.
Any one fitted a rns315 to a pre face lift leon?

I've got the 310 but the quality is only ok. I'd be surprised if the 315 is any better as it's only a minor update. Also it won't work with the Highline display in the instrument cluster on a pre-facelift as the 315 can only communicate via BAP.

Quality is ok imo for a stock head unit. My problem is the variety of volume levels my mp3s have, some play nicely at 20 (loud) others not louder than 15.

Again for a stock unit I'm happy enough, 90% of the time I can't crank it up anyway.

Quality is poor for a a stock headunit, i used to have vauxhalls before and they were a lot better

I think all of VW's standard head units are 4x20W output.

I've changed my speakers and added a sub. The sub has allowed me to drop the bass level on the door speakers so I can go a lot higher with the volume without distortion.

I like all the inputs you can have from sd card, 6 disc changer aux etc. just the sound quality isn't very dynamic.
Other double din DAB units are too pricey and most of them have sat nav. Think I'll just wait to see if kenwood bring out any new units this year without sat nav.
Even thought about amping it but then you can't really set the eq without spending even more

20 w is pretty whimpy, really need some extra power to get Uprated speakers singing. I've even used sound coat on most of my car to improve the sound and to get rid of some road noise

This is something I'll be looking at soon as well. Was going to upgrade the standard speakers but not sure how much that will improve the sound quality with just the standard headunit.

Might have to look into getting a single din head unit and losing out on the aux/usb inputs :(

I've got a pair of hertz 165 if memory serves me well. Made a massive difference over the standard speakers also lined the doors with soundcoat. I've got good bass and controlled treble now. Just the sound isn't dynamic at all. The speakers need more power to drive them

You'll get them back with your new unit, though. You may even be able to get one with rear USB and/or Aux, which will allow you to wire it into the glovebox. Handy to keep an ipod in all the time and not on show :) aftermarket stereos will improve the sound quality loads.

Got an RCD 510(I know poor wattage output), Not happy with the sound quality, Neither Bass or treble just want abit more, I know I'm not gonna get massive improvements but is it worth spending just a little bit of money and seeing some improvements with something like one of these?

I have the VIBE Slick 6 in my car, albeit the V1 rather than V2. They definitely improve the sound quality, but there's only so much you can do when the stere has limited power.

The EDGE speakers are crap, they sound really muddy, no clarity at all. I'd suggest going to your local halfords, they should have both on display to listen to!

Cheers Jara, been reading up last few days and seen you know your stuff, Well alot more than me haha. How much will I notice the difference? And would you strongly recommend that I disable the original tweeter?

Reckon I'll go for the Vibe ones then, Will be able to do it myself tomorrow then as I won't have to take the door cards off. Have you amped yours? If not can you remember how much the bass/treble was improved?

The difference is definitely noticeable, however (as you may have seen) I've still added a subwoofer to my car to help. It depends how strong you like your treble I guess! I've actually re-enabled mine at the minute, but the treble on my head unit is -8 I think!

You'll need SAK-3103 adapters, halfords sell them but they are cheaper online. And no, mine aren't amped! If you like your music loud then ideally you'll need to amp them, or get a sub. I like mine loud so I got the sub :D

With regards to the sub install I found in my last car all be it shite that quite a bit of the car vibrated when it shouldn't... how is the leon regarding subs being on quite loud... like the boot catch vibrating loudly etc...

I haven't found that with mine to be honest, the only thing that vibrates is my Allen key set and electric tyre pump which are in the pocket right next to my sub.

What does vibrate is the bloody rear door handles which I still haven't sorted!

This was one of the main things I was dissapointed with when swtiching from my A3. The sound quality in the A3 was brilliant for a standard set up and comes with a sub as standard.
