Coming home tonight and just as I turned onto the street I heard a noise as if my exhaust was dropping off and scraping the ground! It was really quite loud!
So I pulled on the drive and checked it, and it all seemed fine. I drove up and down the drive a couple of times and it was still very loud but appeared to be coming from the drivers side rear wheel! (It's difficult to tell exactly as I was of course in the car and no-one else around to help).

Now, I'm by no means a mechanic but I thought I'd have a look and see if I could see anything obvious. Looked underneath the car and it all looked fine apart from a random pipe dangling down which I assume to is connected to the overfill on the petrol cap.

I've posted a pic above just to be sure, but I don't think the pipe is the problem...

I drove it up and down a couple more times to try and get a better idea and then it stops making the noise completely!! And now I can't get it to happen again. I've looked on the drive for any signs of things having dropped off but can't see anything. I don't know if it's me being paranoid but I'm not sure my brakes are as good as they used to be - they still stop but seem a little "spongy". Pads all have plenty of wear left on them and the fluid is fine.

So - does anyone have the faintest idea what might have been causing this?? I thought it might be a stone stuck in the wheel workings somewhere but I couldn't see anything.:confused::confused:

Car is a Leon FR Tdi MK2.

It's probably just the angle of the photo but the plastic inner arch looks close to the wheel, especially at the top - but no obvious signs on the inner side of the tyre....

I had one snap a few clips and fall onto one of the rear wheels on my old peugeot... That sounded rough, until I pulled over and ripped it out.

Could it be damper failure letting the arch drop.It does look very close to the wheel.Apart from that all looks ok.
Or the spring may have broken but it looks fine.

Stone stuck in between the brake disc & pad?

I thought the same as you when i heard a noise like that, but it was just a stone!

Hey /dev/null

I had exactly this happen with my mk2 a few months after getting it. It stopped after a minute of driving and never reoccurred but I asked one of the guys at LC Charles about the next time it was there and they knew what it was.

Apparently the clips on some pipes become unclipped and can drag or knock, they took it in for 30 mins and re-secured everything. After mine had happened I had an odd knocking when going around right corners (not loud but noticeable), this was resolved with the fix they did.

Talk to one of the techs down at your local dealer and they should be able to find out what's popped off!
