Hi,

Just got a Mk5 Ibiza 12 reg this week, it didn't have a spare wheel, just the compressor/tyre inflator etc in the spare wheel well. I've ordered a spare wheel kit online for about £36, with new wheel brace, jack etc, that will fit inside a spare.

I kept the spare from my 06 reg Ibiza which I traded in, however the sizes are different:

Old: 205 45 R16
New: 185 60 R15

Obviously the spare is a bit bigger, would this make much difference? If would only be used to get me to a Tyre place. Fortunately not had to use it in 9 years!

Cheers

Mike

Right, the best way to see it is safe to use is to feed both these sizes into a "wheel width and offset" web based calculator. To do that you will also need the width J?? and ET?? of both wheels.

Personally I don't think it will be a very good plan, can you not sell the old spare and buy a new one, remembering tyres start to get hard after 6 years.

Put it this way, before considering wheel offset and width, wife's old Polo had 185/60 X 14 winter tyres, her new one is getting 185/60 X 15 winter tyres, so straight away you can see these cars moved "up" a rim size so rolling radius will always be "bigger" on the later models.
