Did you get it with a warranty it?

It sounds like your new cluster has the same dry solder issue which (I'm guessing) you had with your old cluster.

To answer your question with the mileage, it can be changed with VAG Commander / VAG Tacho.

When I had the dry solder last time the gauge didn't work and I got the red light and the beep. Now with the second hand speedo it just beeps and red light flashes but the gauge works.

If you have VCDS scan the car and see if the Coolant temperature sensor is working correctly. If it is, then you could of had a stoke of bad luck with another faulty cluster with the same issue.

Three options that I can think off:

1 - Check the pins in the connector blocks that connect to the cluster to make sure there are no breaks etc...

2 - Get a VCDS scan to see if there are any other issues such as wiring to Coolant sensor or faulty Coolant Sensor

2 - Get the cluster solders re-flowed to remove the dry solder issue.

i have vag com lite but i think there is a problem with it because i can connect to the car but cant get all fault codes and says something like to busy or something like that. is that just because it lite version if it is ill by a cheap copy off ebay for the moment till i save for the full version.

when i get in ill take a screen shot of what comes up maybe im doing something wrong.
just looking up online for speedo correction software and the all say for vdo but i think my speedo is trw and cant find anything for vdo.

i think the error message i get is "too many communication errors to continue"

The 6 dial clusters are common to have dry solder joints at the connector blocks causing erratic behaviour. Most people swap in the 4 dials from the later FR models which are better.

if its just the solder ill re flow and see what the outcome is. don't suppose you know what that error messages means when im trying to use ross-tech lite i wanna get the full version but don't wanna spend the money till i get the lite working.

i got the cable detected and can use it on a few things but cant scan for faults or erase them.
