Sports Suspension

Hello all

I have recently put new 17" rims on my mk2 cupra sports and now I need to lower it

I have read a couple of posts which say that the suspension cups rub. Can anyone recommend how many mm I would be able to lower the car without it rubbing and also which kit would be the best?

Cheers

pretty sure 40mm is a safe bet with 215/45/17 tyres. not sure about the profile tho, might be 40 n not 45.

40mm drop will be fine with 17"s. Sure the tyres i had were 215/45/17. Only scrubbed when full going over any dips or bumps sumtimes

if you get it lowered, get a good set of springs and shocks (maybe with damper adjust), i got fk performance package and it was ok for a couple of months, then it settled in and got alot of body roll and rubbed like a git round the corners

ditto on fk coilvers mate, rubs like a ****er now, rubs on any insignificant bump in the road, i am too lazy to raise my car though.

left hand wheel arch liner might need a trim where the battery is located.
but from memeory 205/40/17 was the way to go with 17's.personally IMHO this looks out of place on a mk2,wide 16's look far more agressive with some spacers on the back to fill out the arches.car handles better too ;)

i had three sets of 16"s on my old 16v, tempted to go 17 but always decided against it, 16"ers look well spaced out and are by no means a compromise in either looks or performance.

Im running 205/45/16's on mine and the right hand wheel still rubs, even when im just moving at slow speeds

is there a reason for this, mines rubs mainly on the right hand side too, wondering if theres a reason for it, it only has rub marks on the right inner arch too

I think its the way the arch is formed to go around the air box, seems to be were its rubbing on mine  not much you can do, apart from removing them or getting fully adjustable suspension and thats expensive, not a good idea to remove them either, tried that and got a ton of dirt wedged up the wheel arch

Cheers for the comments guys!

I've got 205/40/17s. I'm not sure whether to get Koni or FK - is the extra £100 worth it to get the Koni which are adjustable?

Just from reading alimac81's comments was wondering if it would be worth it

I would probably go for the koni, at least you get some adjustment in case the soften up too much, (unless thats what u want)
