When it's cold and wet out I find my car squeaks a bit, but after a bit of driving it disappears.

Even if I don't drive her for a few days she squeaks but it always goes, although mine sounds more in time with a belt going round.

I've read in here of peoples timing belt tensioner doing that. They got it replaced under warranty.

How old is the car and is it due a belt?

Donnyboy is bang on was a pretty common concern which usually ended with the cambelt and tensioner and idler replaced to cure it.
From memory it was around 57 and 08 Reg cars that done it.

On mine, I'm not 100% sure if it's due a belt but she's having a service Saturday so will find out. Mines an 06 plate.

Didn't know that would be the culprit of the squeaking. Thanks!

If its an 06 and its never had a belt then its definately over due one, regardless of the mileage. Mines also due, just need to brace myself for the sting in my back pocket

Oh really? Greeeeat. Is it something I would be best off taking to a garage to get done?

Definately - its not necessarily a difficult thing to change, its just labour intensive actually getting to it. Make sure if you ring around for quotes that they include the tensioners etc within the price. While your at it you may as well get the water pump changed too. Not essential but recomended. 2 vital parts on your engine that you need to keep well maintained is the water pump and cam belt.

Be prepared for a sting though.

Ahh OK :( not looking forward to that!

I'll definitely check on Saturday. I'm doing the service with a friend so *hopefully* I could save myself a bit of money doing it that way.

Cheers guy's so it's the timing belt causing it to squeak. My cars a 08 K1 with 19k on the clock, the timing belt isn't due a replacement until next year when its four years old. If i leave it to squeak until next year will the car be fine. It only squeaks when shes started up from cold for a few min's then it go's.

Its only got 19k on the clock so it shouldn't really be squeaking....

Thanks for all the feedback guys much appreciated.

Well I don't think anyones came to any harm it was just more annoying than anything.
08 was the time they seemed affected.
Your 4 year service will be March is it? I think if it went wrong before 4 years and at your mileage you would be able to claim.
Its up to you.

From memory the ones on here were caused by the timing belt tensioner being noisy but the whole kit was replaced.
Timing belt replacement is still 4 years or 60k whichever comes first.

i dought very much its belt at 19k
get someone to listen to it mate
the rough cost of a belt by dealer can be up to£550
independants like myself are about £280

The sound is exactly like it is in the video link. That's what i was thinking 19k is low miles but by the looks of it others have had it resolved through changing the cam belt. Might just wait until March when the cam belt is due..
