Squeal on starting

Hello all

This is my first post so please be gentle!

I have a 2004 Leon 1.6 16v petrol which has always had a tiny squeal right at the end of the noise as you start it. It's worse when it's cold. Once the engine is idling it doesn't squeal at all.

Yesterday I started it from cold and it took three attempts. The squeal was much worse, higher pitched and longer.

I haven't heard the squeal at any other time. My first thought it that it's the fan belt. Can anyone help with what this might be and the likely remedy & cost?

TIA

Its the starter motor running on after the initial start and can be solved by either:

Replacing the starter motor

or removing it and greasing the plunger for the starter gear.
