Hi folks,

This is a question that only people that have had stage 1 remaps AND THEN after had a custom remap with an up-rated clutch at a later date can answer from experience.

Stage 1 remap will see a PD150 around 180-195bhp and 295lb ft (for clutch health) @ £265^

Custom remap + Clutch sees around 210-220bhp and 330-350 lb ft @ £900^

(please correct my figures if they are wrong)

The question: Is there a massive notice in power hike between the two? (sounds like a stupid question but there's no point in spending loads extra for minimal oomph)

I'd love a new clutch and custom remap however with the car needing a new cambelt as well my bill is around £1300^

Did a stage 1 remap bring a huge grin?

Thanks!

stage 1, basically generic remap, suits all standard cars, 175-185bhp and 275-295ftlb, custom map, stage 2 with mods should see 185-200bhp and 290-330ftlb roughly, you should notice a big difference to from standard to stage 1, then a little bit of difference to stage 2;)

Your figures are about right for the generic stage 1. Stage 2 should see another 10bhp or so (if you're lucky) plus another 20-30 lbs/ft torque (uprated rated clutch). In terms of figures there is hardly any difference between stage 1 and 2. It depends on your modifications e.g. exhaust etc and the stage 2 would be more tailored to these items (depending on the tuner). If the maps done correctly it should be a better one than the stage 1 but maybe not in terms of outright figures.

i beleive stage two is not all about horse power, its more about increasing torque tolerances taking in to consideration the fact that you have a more powerful aftermarket clutch and stainless steel exhaust system.

I am not so sure that paying the extra for a custom map unless you got a big turbo is a good idea. Reason i say this is because the ECU does a lot of adaptation. From my AmD stage 1 map where I got 185bhp...once i put exhaust, twin cold air feed, sfs fmic piping and tip I got another 9 bhp and 10lb/ft of torque. Thats with my turbo dieing a horrible death so I would/should have got a lot more.

with a jabba map you will need a updated clutch with a custom map

I can't believe people talk about pegging back remaps. The whole point is try and get the best out of the machine. If the machine cannot cope, upgrade it before going for mapping. :)

It's a bit like strapping a rocket to a standard bicycle. Before you start using that mutha you might want to stick decent tyres, decent brakes, etc on it. :D (and get some protective armour :D)

i felt the exact same! back when i joined i said i was going to save up and then wham... but now i have the money in hand its a lot of money to blow on a car... im looking at £1400ish in total maybe more. me being me, i tend to have a different car every year

the miss wants a ring, i need to save up for a house.... :banned:

get a cheap dress ring ,

its that or a remap !! - 'cough' map

im upgrading things before the map, egr first & and sfs pipework , as cheaper , then shortly after when clutch goes really bad is swap that mofo out the way , before the zorst and rest
