sad day today my starter motor has gone for a while it whould make a noise before startup but today it just didnt turn over. battrey was fine and i can push start the car.

my question is i have a 1999 1.4 8v mk2 ibiza

how easy is it to change the starter motor will i have to remove the cambelt i hope not as it was a pain to change that a year ago.

i know its located under the car

Your starter should be near the gear box I think I know on my 2.o it is

found it stuck on which screws to take out it is the bolts on the gearbox side

Ye it's rights thur the g box the bolts are quiet long so take a a little while to remove them bit once off give it a shake and wallaaaa starter motor off :)

Is it the one connects to the earth that was a bugger for me lol you managed to buy a new one ?

yeah it was its out now gonna try and find a new one now was quoted 70 pounds for a new one but have to trade old on in

ahh that seems a little expensive have you tried andrew page ?

chnaged starter motor car will still not start .

RAC checked the battrey and its fine

dont hear the starter turning over

could it be a relay looks like an electrical issue

what does the starter relay look like and were is it located

did u make sure the earth is bolted back on correctly ? erm im not sure about the relay matye

yeah there were 2 wires on the back of the motor one needs to be screwed in im guessing that was earth the other was a cliped in .

i have changed all the relays that are on loacted were the fuses are .

i think i can hear a click when i turn the key

as i said before i can push start the damn thing any ideas

hmm as i say if push starts would suggest a dodgy connection im not sure other wise u say it doesnt turn over ?

yeah wont start unless push started.

are there any fuses or any safty clutch switches that could cause the electrical issue

hi i think there is power going to the motor as i can hear a buzing sound from it that stops after 30 seconds .

also it does get hot after i turn the key a few times .

my understanding is power from the positive from car battery goes to solinoid valve the other end comes from an starter switch that is controlled by the ignition barrell

is there anyway to bypass the ignition barrell.

ive heard if you get a piece of wire and connect the positive terminal of the battery to the wire on the solonid valve it should start is that correct ???

if i put the head lights on and turn the ignition the headlights dim so its draining power it must be the switch wire on
