Steering Column Gator

Just noticed that the steering column gator in the engine bay has split, has anyone changed this themselves, it looks like a sh1tter of a job.
any info would be appreciated.

it's not that bad, unclip it, undo the steering column from the rack & replace it

Is there a way to shorten the steering rack?

Like so i dont have to turn the wheel to lock it?
