'Steering Weight' - VAGCOM Settings?

Met up with Robdf2 at weekend to do some logging (primarily to help him compare my report with his as he's not 100% sure his motor is running properly).

Rob did mention when driving my car something which I have noticed (and also raised by Monster Motorsport when car was in last) that my steering is very light in comparison to other cupras.

Under hard acceleration and high speed steering is very light/sensitive on mine and doesn't fill you with confidence!

I have had a look through a few threads and it looks like you can adjust the 'Steering Weight' with VAGCOM codes. Is this true?

For those that have it can they post what VAGCOM settings they have (not sure on the levels of adjustment) and how they feel their cars respond.

Also if you know the codes for the range of adjustment that would be very helpful too :)

This will hopefully allow me to make some adjustments and also rule out the light steering isn't due to something else!

Thanks in advance

I'll post my reading when see report

Yeah this can be done in VAGCOM although its not something I have done on mine. Could probably have a scope about on mine this weekend coming when I head north to continue stripping it.

I'll keep an eye on this thread as i find my steering a bit too light as well. Considering a suspension upgrade at the moment as the standard set-up aint impressing me, not to mention the car looks too high!

Much appreciated if you can. I'm sure some sniffing around would reveal the level of adjustability.

Mine is defo very light. Don't know if it came like that or had been subsequently adjusted as didnt have car from new.

Would like to see what codes people have just to check when I see my report.

Cheers

As far as I know steering weight settings could be altered on Seat Leon 1m.

With the current Seat Leon 1p this option is blocked and so far I haven't found any dealer/tuner that was able to alter the settings (it's blocked on 0 in Vag com).
However wider tires and a more negative setting will add some weight to the steering (but overall the steering of the Leon is one of the weak points not offering too much conficence).

That's interesting given driving Robs Cupra and Monsters Cupra the steering is firmer than mine yet in effect they are the same car.

Surely this has to be adjustable otherwise they would feel the same!

Here is the reading from my report;

44-Steering Assist -- Status: OK 0000

Address 44: Steering Assist Labels: 1Kx-909-14x.lbl
Part No: 1K2 909 144 M
Component: EPS_ZFLS Kl.154 H08 1901
Shop #: WSC 04941 785 00200
VCID: 366765C7382F

No fault code found.

What do other have?

My limited knowledge would suggest 0000 is the most sensitive (or standard setting or does 0000 just mean no errors found)?

0000 is standard setting but especially for 18" too light perfect would be -2 (heavier steering) but unfortunately haven't found a way to alter this.

Can anyone advise if this adjustable or not and what codes they have as appear 0000 seems standard and I find that light.

More logs and advice would be very helpful

Cheers.

I have however been advised that on some of the newer models the steering assist is NOT adjustable.

I'll do some messing around either when next get use of vagcom or ask if they can look at it on next service

Steering Assist:
You can change how much input is needed on the wheel to turn it. It's set at 5 on the VW Jetta GLI.
Select 44 (Steering Assist)
--> 10 Adaptation
Read channel 1.

Lower numbers are harder steering, higher numbers are easier. Range is reported to be between 0 and 6.

This is reported to not work with vag-com on 2007 models.

Guessing non of you guys have a car older than 2007 then? Mines a 57 and it won't allow any changes or display anything in channel 1. Not sure what the other channels affect? any way around this?

Just back from picking up my car from Monster motorsport after a service.

They tried but the Steering assist is 'blanked' out on my car and therefore can not be changed (certainly through VAGCOM anyway).

My car is 08 plate.

I think if you are 07 some you can adjust, some you can't. If your car is post that unlikely you can change it.

Moster did however confirm tyres over-inflated so they have put correct pressures in and that seems to help a bit (31 front / 29 rear)
