Can anyone help with a problem Im having. The stereo in my Mk3 Ibiza (2002 Chill) keeps cutting out every few seconds and then coming back on again. The unit doesnt seem to lose power as the display light and fan are unaffected. But its bloody annoying to be listening to something only for the sound to disappear every few seconds.
Strangely it seems to happen worse after a rainfall. By that I mean it cuts out every 5-7 second as opposed to every 10-15.
Any ideas what might be wrong and how I can fix it?

i have the same problem i have to have mine turned down below 22 and it wont go off, i asked somebody and he reckons its something to do with the voltage if its too high it wil cut off

have any of you got 6*9 speakers?

Kick it, bloody pain in the root lol, or change it:)

I dont really put the volume above 15 anyway (Im old you see) and much lower you wont hear the bugger anyway.
Seatman how did you do that? It looks like you've got rid of most of the heater controls.
Incidently, with a bit of moisture in the air this morning it worked just fine. But its very rare it works properly like that.

No there all in tact, I just damaged a couple of the little tiny bulbs on the heater switches lol. There's a how to somewhere in here, it's not 100% clear but I figured the rest out.:)

The unit doesnt seem to lose power as the display light and fan are unaffected.

Most head units need two power sources, one main power that does all the work, then an additional switched power to know when it can turn on. If the switched power is being a bit temperamental then that could cause the radio to go off without losing power to everything else.

Have you taken the unit out and had a look at the connections?

I havent tried pulling it apart yet but now I know a bit about what to look for I'll be giving it a lash. Cheers fellas
If anyone has any other ideas what the problem may be, please keep posting them up.
Thanks again

Right so I took the facia off and the HU out last night. Removed all the plugs and gave them a bit of a clean as they were a bit dusty and the ribbon and aerial cables didnt look to be seated just right so cleaned them up and crimped them on a bit tighter with some pliers (just on the aerial, didnt use pliers on the ribbon connector) and this morning everything is working perfectly.
To the guys who were having similar trouble, its worth a go just making sure all your connections are clean and tight. Maybe even use a drop of contact cleaner. Touch wood it seems to have worked for me.
Thanks to everyone who chipped in to help
