Stereo Problem

I recently bought a 1.4 ibiza and I've not managed to get the stereo working properly yet.

I've heard of the problem of the stereo turning itself on, but my stereo turns itself off. After a few minutes of playing with the engine running the stereo turns itself off. strangely when the engine is off the stereo is fine.

I've put this problem down to either the console or the head unit that sits behind the console, but not sure as to which one and as to whether I can fix the problem by fiddling around or whether I need to replace one of them (or both:cry: ).

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone know where a good place is to get these type of spares?

hi there i had the problem with my radio to where it kept turnin its self on when the was no one in the car took it to my local steelers 40 quid for em just to tell me it was broken (what i already knew) the problem was the gray box behind the dash cost 130 quid for a replacement unit fitted it myself as they wanted aonther 60 quid to undo and put back in 6 screws and 4 plugs
what they did say was it is a common problem with the mk3 the radio seems to give out loads of problems as it controls for the heating run though it hope ive been some help

cheers for that, was gonna take it in to the local dealers but may not do now, just try and pick up the part ,could save me a few £s. I've taken it out and stuff so expect I could do it.

Anyone know a good place to pick one of these units up? Can you orders these direct from seat or need a local dealer to do it through?

The missus has a problem with her radio/cassette turning itself on. She spoke to a mechanic who said to leave an old cassette in the player.

Worked a treat.(and cheaper than £150+ for a new part)
