Sticky Lifter???

Hey Hey
I have a 1.4i s ibiza.
When i first start up the car the engine it is a little bit noisy with a tapping noise. After about 5 mins the noise stops. Iv only just bought the car second hand and the bloke said its called a sticky lifter and a common problem with this model which is easily fixed. Has anyone else had the same problem and if so how do i go about fixing it?

if its hydraulic tappets, its just a lack of oil first thing before it gets warmer and thinner,. my golf mk2 used to tap like mad, only way to stop that was rev it round to around 5000/6000 but thats not advisable from cold.

sometimes an oil change and filter can help

a friend of mine has a fiesta zetec that was abit tappy from cold, and that helped his alot, although youll probably always have the noise. unless its mega loud ticking then i wouldnt worry about it.

try and engine flush and then oil change if that doesn't fix it, one of the guys on Club Gti has written a very good guide on the dis-assembly and cleaning of tappets......

i dont think its very expensive to buy a set of new ones, if your going to start stripping the head to clean them. specially being a single cam with 8valves
