Stiff gear change on 2003 1.0ltr Arosa

Hi All, In a bid to same money I bought myself a 2003 1.0ltr Arosa S from a local dealer. Picked it up this morning and have driven it locally but I am finding the gear change to be stiff.

I hear that this could be a peddle box problem but they all seem to point towards a 1.4 version.

The car has 44k and FSH.

Any advice? I really want to love this car!!

If its just the gears that are stiff when changing them, it would indicate that the linkage as m0rk says needs lubricating. The pedal box will give you a completely different variety of problems. Is it just certain gears that are difficult to engage ?

Hi, Thanks for replying....its all gears rather then just one in particular! Also, is the Arosa normally noisy from the rear? Not sure if its a wheel bearing sound or just road noise!!

Might be a wheel bearing, its always worth changing them. Pretty easy job but, very messy. You could also try checking the engine brackets/mountings.

Cheers for that, had my pops take the car out for a spin. For a guy that works on £90,000,000 aircraft he is quite taken by my £2000 beast!

Many thanks for your help - off to buy some sound deadening!

You could try adjusting the clutch and lubricating the gear linkages.

My 2003 1.0s gearbox is perfect, very light and gives a really nice change, so yours should be similar.

You may also want to get the gearbox oil changed, inexpensive thing to do and its probably a worthwhile thing to have done too. I know ive had my TDis done and it was much smoother after that.

Mine doesnt really give much noise from the back, so it maybe a wheel bearing or noisey tyres.
