Strange noise on cold startup 1.2tsi

Hi all

I was just wondering my 64 plate 1.2 tsi has been making a 'loudish' noise upon cold start up, I've heard this could be caused by the timing chain and tensioner. I've also heard it can be the oil tappets for the tensioner that are just filling up with oil this is what causes the noise?

i have a 1.2 fr 12 2013, I hear a similar noise on mine, ill try and recored it, it sounds like a mild engine rev.

If it's a rattle, chances are it is the timing chain and/or tensioner. Get VCDS on it and it will show "chain elongation" if it's bad enough.

My 2014 1.2/105 did the same but more when parked faced uphill. I guess the oil just took longer to get to the top end that way.

I didn't have any issues with the engine (related to the noise).
