I have just bought a Leon 170TD FR 2007 with nearly 18k on the clock.
Having never owned a TD im not sure of what noises it should and shouldnt make.

Not sure if this is a normal thing, but in 3rd & 4th gear between about 1250rpm and just under 1750rpm i get a strange wooing type noise, kind of like a worn wheel bearing noise.
Once i get above 1750rpm the noise goes.

I do not think its a wheel bearing as it would make this noise in all gears, is it just a noise the turbo makes when its spooling up or do i have other problems?

Only had the car for 2 days.

Thanks Again
Lee

Wooing or Mooing - there was a few posts about this a while back on the Mk2 - can't remember what the cause / fix was - although i know the dealers ended up replacing something - but it wasn't a major item.

Its a wooing wheel bearing kind of noise at those revs. However, having said that if i blip the revs to about 1,000 stood still in neutral and let off, when the revs goes back down it makes a very slight mooing noise, with a very so slight vibration, but i think that may just be normal.

is it only under acceleration? i have a similar noise at similar revs and after searching came to conclusion it was the turbo, (mine sounds like a distant police siren noise??)

It is not effecting the performance of car and seat checked it out and said it was fine?

My old Leon mk2 had the police car siren noise - even though performance seemed fine it was indeed the turbo which was eventually replaced under warranty.

Worryingly, it seems to be an almost common fault on the TDI 140. Not sure about the 170...

If yours is doing the police siren thing i'd get that back under warranty and get it fixed - worn journal bearings - just changed the Turbo on my Mk1 Tdi because of that.

I have just booked my car in at Seat in Nottingham for Tuesday 24th, so far i did not find the customer service on the phone very good and i was told if its not effect performance it will not be replaced.

I'm adiment that im going to get them to fix this as its still under warrenty, it was not making the noise from new so it should not be making it now.

I'm going to address the turbo, valve and valve pipe to them and hopefully they will sort this.

Already i feel stressed just from the contact with them, i shall update on Tuesday once they have had it.

Persist with it - something may be on the way out so why should you wait until it's completely buggered?

I dealt with the service manager when my turbo was replaced - you could try and demand this and see if you get any joy...

Yeh im thinking of getting an assessment from a local mechanic which i know and then getting them to do me a report and will hand this to the dealer when i pass them my car.

Thanks Uncle fester - it is a company car but even so i am gonna get it booked in again and keep hassling them...

Got back to stealers, turbo being changed next week, they originally thought it was a split hose but after checking all these finally gave the turbo the once over and hey presto needed replacing, thanks UncleFester. :D
