Stupid SEAT! Paint peeling off - What can I do?

I've just been out to give my car a quick jetwash and noticed that there is quite a large area at the back of both front wheel arches with no paint!

It looks like the paint has just chipped/peeled away and left the bare metal!

The car is an 05 FR on 57k.

What shall I do??? Take it back to SEAT or get it down to a body shop?

I am well and truly sick of this car and am very close to selling it and leasing a megane 250! It'll probably be more reliable and better built!

Any idea how much ££ I'm looking at for the two front arches and the passenger rear? I've never had paint work done before.

Will I not be able to claim against SEAT?

Here are some pictures:

Drivers Front - doesn;t look like stone damage because it carries on down the side of the car!?

My manual says:

3 years from the date of delivery, on paintwork and

12 years from the delivery date, against perforation from corrosion of the body

the warranty will not be covered;

If damage is due to exterior influences or insufficient care of the vehicle:

It is over 3 years so wouldn't have thought I'd be able to get it done under paintwork, i seriously hope it doesn't perforate any time soon as it is likely to spread further across the car before then!

Has anyone claimed for this sort of thing before? It's a p**s take that a 6 year old car is falling apart like that and I would expect SEAT to sort it, but I doubt they will!

Mine had this noticed it last summer. I think its happened to most if not all cars if you looked.

I just rubbed it down and hammerite it. Its come through again so will just keep painting it. Don't think you can get rid of it as all the stones/dirt is just going to hit it off the tyres.

Just keep an eye on it and rub it back and paint it from time to time.

OK, thanks for the reassurance!

Maybe some kind of colour coded vinyl over the bad area would protect it?

tbh i would be very careful when using a pressure washer most of them are far to fast and can easily take the paint off when used close up

use it on a gentle setting, the paint work on the leons seems a bit crap tbh i have noticed paint missing on serveral bits seems to flake off very easily the best thing you can do is just touch it up mean time to avoid rust etc but it will need respraying that looks like its come off under the pressure washer stone chips probably started it off though

you can get touch up pen from seat (they knew the paint would flake off honest) or just use what i use some black smooth hammerite paint for the time being

Thatnks for the advice RS6! I am trying to get a quote for a respray today. I normally use the jet wash on the softest setting, but must have been doing damage! Stupid winter, you don't get a chance to clean your car properly and notice stuff like this before it gets bad!

Mobile paint retoucher should be able to do repaint them for about £70.

I had the top of my rear bumper resprayed and the guy did a superb job.

Just got a quote for £120 to do both fronts and touch up the tiny chip at the rear. Mobile guy and will take about 3.5 hours, does that sound reasonable?

Alexis - Just seen you're also from Manchester - could you give me a name of whoever did yours? I'm only down the road!

if that's both front wings in full that's an amazing price but I'm guessing it's just round the rim and along the bottom and any chips around the area, still good though all said and done I think. I have found bodyshops to charge £100-150 per panel depending on panel etc

Nowadays cars is not so reliable as they was before, my Leon mk1 does not have such a issue with paint, although in winter we have a lot of ice, salt and gravel on the road. So for the author of toppic - if You want a good result, You must paint all panel and then put Your car in garage and never drive it again ;) Or buy Land Rover Defender.
