howdy all..

was coming home from work tonight (well tried to anyway) the engine management light started flashing and there is now loss of power below 30,000 revs.

anyway i just made it home and my neighbour said it sounds like a misfire. i searched the site and a few problems come up with these symptoms..

1. coil packs
2. spark plugs
3. blocked fuel injectors
4. lambda sensors?
5. mafs?

its being taken away tomorrow to be seen but wondering if any of these problems will be covered by a mechanical autocare warranty.

any help would be great because i am just totally stumped!

LOL @ 30,000 revs  you mean 3,000 revs

Anyway my money is on a coil pack, they go all the time and seat do a 5 year warranty on them because they know they are so rubbish

As long as your car is less than 5 years old SEAT should do it for free

BTW none of the parts you have listed are mechanical :( so Autocare will prob laugh at you :(

coil pack! welcome to the dodgy VAG coil pack group! i had all 3 go on my 1.2 one after the other

Obvious statement: check the terms of the warranty. My parents' Polo is covered by an extended warranty, which I'd expect would cover failures of 1, 4 and 5, possibly 3 if the injectors had failed. Sparks might be covered by their own warranty if recently replaced, or their premature failure was caused by faulty coil packs. (A few years ago, I had a Lupo whose HT cables failed. Unfortunately HT cables weren't covered by the extended warranty but it was a broken coil pack that had killed them, so they were both replaced under warranty. The 3-cylinder 1.2 doesn't have HT cables, though...)

However, my money's on it being a coil pack. I think they last around 5 years or 50,000 miles.

cheers 4 the feedback guys. my dad got a phonecall when i was at work saying that it would cost roughly £190 to fix (he cant remember the exact problem) but said that i had extended warranty, the mechanic phoned back and surprisingly agreed and said that the full charge would be £12 for redex to be supplied and used.

problem is that i wont get it back till monday cause of the parts needed in, but at least i dont need 2 spend lots of cash to get it fixed. will update it when i speak 2 the mechanic myself and find out what they say is the problem.
