I am on target to change my car later this year and with ordering times as they are it maybe sooner than I think. Top choice for me so far is to just upgrade from my current FR but I notice that for similar money you can get the 140bhp Stylance with a DSG box.

Has anyone got an opinion on the the choice of cars and whether a TDI would benefit from the DSG box?

The DSG box works brilliantly well with the TDi engine. I have the 2.0 engine in my Altea with DSG and a remap by Celtic- brilliant! If you get a chance to drive a DSG , I think you will be impressed. If you do any amount of time stuck in traffic, its a no brainer. The gearchanges are quicker than you can do with a manual box, which goes so well with the diesel's lesser rev range.
I've done 26k in mine now and its a big thumbs up from me.:)

I have a stylance tdi 140 with dsg and ity cant b faulted brilliant in all types of driving and traffic. So glad i stumped up the extra for it hope that helps and questions just ask

Thanks guys. Did you look at the FR aswell?

I will of course be organising some test drives for myself but I wanted to hear some real world opinions / tips before I go in.

Does anyone know if there any plans for the FR to have DSG?

Really?

I know 100% it's available of the Golf, and I'm also pretty sure it available on the A3 :)

Just checked the Audi site and not available on the 170 in the A3 or any other model using that engine. Any other autos are the other type of tiptronic gear box.

Checked and the Golf GT does use the DSG which is the first time. I did read on here previously why it couldn't be used and it was something to do with the torque.

Its ok with petrol models becuase the torques not as low down and come in such huge lumps as a diesel engine.

I stand corrected but there was a reason why it wasn't used.

In practice it handles the extra torque just fine. My 2.0 TDi is remapped to about 185bhp and 300lbft and it hasn't missed a beat. Doubt if an FR would push it much further than that. I was concerned about this at first, but quite happy now.

You are aware that S Tronic is the new name that Audi uses for the DSG gearbox and that it is available across the A3 and A4 range including the 170PD engine?

Where Audi really pulls clear of the opposition is in the availability of its revolutionary S Tronic Dynamic Shift Gearbox (DSG on the early cars but known as S Tronic on later models) on the most powerful petrol and diesel models.
