still deciding about my speakers etc, whether to replace the rear ones etc etc, been looking at the 6.5"components for the front and can maybe stretch to them, not that they're expensive prob cheaper than i thought!so if i have a sub what should i go for reasonably priced, will probably want one ready boxed to shove straigt in boot.will i need an amp as well??

That said i've got a kit or part of one that i got yonks back for my golf n ripped it out when i scrapped her, think i've got the back half stuff amps, sub n something else. sure incs a sub,was cheap but recommended by max power if you like your dance stuff as i do,is it possible for me to check what they sound like without having to wire em up properly cos if still good may use that one n have evn better front ones...i remeber em sounding good in the golf but they've been in a box for 4/5yrs coulda been damaged.....

Was all set to order me a set of Rainbows n just read a forum where someone said that the slx265's coupled with an apline hu sounds really harsh,as thats what i have what do i do now......

heeelllppp,all so confusing!

if u connect the sub to a 12v battery and some speaker wire (obviously attached to a "music maker" :) ) u will hear if they are still working without having 2 wire it up properly - u will just get a little "thump thump" out of it
ummm and keep a fire extinguisher handy..... im not the best/safest at wiring i kno

you'll need new wiring for the sub, the poor little speaker wires your were running for the rear speakers wont be anywhere near the gauge you'll need for the sub.

For the record i picked up my Vibe CBR 12 on ebay for about £60 and with a little tweaking suits me down from my gabba to my drum n bass (it freaks out a little with the speedcore but i dont think i know any car sub that will cope with 350+ BPM!)

What gauge will i need out of interest? was just gonna use my current wire to test if they working n get someone to run everything in as i know nowt.
Still got the question of compatibilty of Rainbows n Alpine hu's,the slx265's come with 10m cable in some cases, would this wire the sub n all i wonder??

Depends on the power of the sub, take a look at the Kit below and you'll get an idea, you'll need to run power from the battery to the sub through the bulkhead and down one the side of the car then audio down the other side then earth the sub somewhere in the boot so there's a fair bit of cabling to do. Not more than a couple of hours at the very most.

Edit: I'd say 8AWG would be a minimum for a sub which is 4.6mm diameter i think

i've just recieved my 15" Directed Sub, got a Vibe VP4 Mono Amp, with the sub (2x4ohm) it should be kicking out around 1200rms, which is more than enough for me. i popped the last sub, by running 3 times the maximum power through it lol

agree, the more expensive vibe CBR sub/amp package is not to be sniffed at, amazing bang for buck.

No point buying an amazing JL W7 sub if your going to run it on a SPLX 400 watt max amp with 8awg wiring.

JL W7 + mono 500/1 JL amp plus some JL front components and zero AWG wiring...mmmm :)

I bought a JBL sub and amp package uber cheap off someone who 'won' it and already had a sub/amp and tbh it does me as i dont like my bass rattling my car to bits, just a little bit deeper and better clarity than OEM speakers

got to stick up for vibe here too (i've had an old CBR10 and got a CBR12 at the moment), tweaked it some more today cos i've gone from listening from DNB to hardstyle and its absolutely awesome bass for the very little money i paid!

everyone that is talkin about vibe, yes they are cheap for what it states it gives out power wise but it doesnt actually give that power out!!!

Vibe is good if you want something a little loud but theres no sq, im about to run some genesis comps givin them 200wrms a piece, then two 12 crystal subs running off a powerbass amp 1500w rms @ 1 ohm with 0awg power and earth and uprated power system and trust me its guna sound lovely!!!

RRP on all my equipment must top £2000 definately (not that i paid that!!)

Forgot to say JVC avx33 headunit lol
