Okay had the car a week now and getting used to the feel of the car and how everything works.

I have already begun to look at things I can add/change on the car, but as a first time car owner, I am a bit confused about what I can do and how to go about it.

The first thing I am doing is fitting an Alphine Stereo with ipod connection - think I can handle this

The next thing is modding the car, I would love some advice on HID lights and how to get/fit.

Also as a final note I am looking for other sugestions... exhasts, colour coded door mirrors, ect...

Cheers in advance as from reading the forums I know you guys will come through for me!

on the hid lights front, technically for aftermarket hid kits, your also meant to fit headlamp washers, and have self leveling headlights, to get it through an mot, but i think it depends on your mot tester as to whether youll actually fail or not, but thats what it says all over the aftermaket boxes.........

Ah right; I thought it was an option on the original car? If so can how is it done at production?

Yeah OE fitment gets levellers and washers.

I had a 1.4 Sport when I was 18, only ended up keeping it a year as I got bored of the power...swapped it for a PD130.

On the exhaust, you get what you pay for, so I say Remus all the way. Expensive but so worth it. What colour is your car as I have some Flash Red mirror covers in my garage.

If it was me, I'd get some easy to clean 17s and get some coilovers.

they put headlamp washers on the car...... simple as that i think lol

Yup that's the deal, factory fit HIDs get light washers and auto levelling - its the rules.

Plus I have read that there is not and never will be type approval available for retro fitting HIDs - ie they will always be illegal, ie do not comply with construction of road use vehicles - look on Briskoda for a link.

A bit of a shame really as some projector lens style lights could be safely converted I'm sure - but still be very expensive.

Very well if they are illegal, but ive had mine for a month now and never been stopped or flashed, and even if i am stopped or whatever i'll just take them out and whip the halogens back in. Lots of reward for very very little risk.

This gets said EVERY time the words "aftermarket" and "HIDs" come up in the same sentence.

I've had my HID Xenons for months now, never been stopped. Also my car flew through a recent MOT with them fitted (SEAT dealer MOT, not some back hander!).

OK the washers allow the light unit to be cleaned, but surely a lens covered with lots of water droplets that projects the light off in different directions is worse than a light thats dirty, where the dirt just blocks light and makes them duller? :p :)

On the radio front make sure the adapter is designed for the correct year car, some adapters are not suitable for CAN-BUS equipped cars, the radio will work but you will get some errors logged in the ECU, it shouldn't cause permanent damage.

Totally agree, mine went through an MOT too

Also people who keep on and on and on posting about how you need washers and levelers need to add that cars with self leveling suspension and washers can have aftermarket HID's and be fully legal. I think that means Volvo's etc but hey if your going to Be pedantic then get it right
