Hi everyone. Just thought I'd jot down a few of my thoughts about tyres for my Sport Tech 170 and get a bit of feedback specifically about winter tyres.
I bought my car fitted with 18" Bridgestone Potanzas. My first test drive of the car initially was quite positive as was expecting a fairly harsh ride but was pleasantly supprised. After a few months, driving on various roads, the harshness began to niggle a bit. Winter was coming up so I bought some Uniroyal MS Plus 66 winter tyres for the front and some Dunlop Sport 01 AS All Season tyres for the rear (to use all year round).
What a revelation! Never mind the cold weather performance, the ride quality was incredible. Not only that, where the old Bridgestones were a bit unpredictable and tramlined terribly on certain surfaces, the new tyres are smooth and grippy and the car goes where I want it to go.
So impressed by the all round performance, I couldn't bear putting the old Bridgestones back on. So I've kept them on all summer and been very impressed. No worse wear than summer tyres really which was a surprise, but the only issue has been outside edge wear on the front which has affected both Bridgestones and Uniroyals. Tracking and alignment has been checked a few times and all is well and pressures are correct too.
Unfortunately my wife has destroyed a front tyre on a curb so had to put my Bridgestones back on for a while. What a disappointment! These tyres are awful! Unpredictable, tramlining, harsh and a horrible rumble and vibration from the road surface.
Can't wait to put some winter tyres back on. The only problem with the Uniroyals was there was no rim protection on them. I searched the Internet to find information on winter tyres with rim protection with no success. The Uniroyals were described as having rim protection but realistically they don't. Anyone got any recommendations?
Sorry for the long winded post but I couldn't really find any relevant threads already posted.
