Hello all,

I own a Cupra 2020 that Ive had for 2 years. It has done 65k miles and Its been modified by me and remapped by R-Tech to just over 370bhp.

The past few weeks I’ve noticed a supercharger/whirring sound. It’s not really noticeable under until over 3k rpm. It makes the noise while stationary and driving.

I’ve found a YouTube video with a golf that is making the exact same noise for reference and put a link to it at the bottom of this post. The comments on the video do not help or say what the fix was.

I have disconnected the vvt magnets and revved the car to 3k rpm and the noise is still there.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be or what to check next? I’ve read comments that say alternator pulley, water pump, pcv valve, timing chain rubbing the guides, balance shafts and some people said they just drive with the noise as it’s supposed to be there and hasn’t caused them any problem. The sound was not here before so it can’t be normal.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Jim.

Update.. Checked the turbo turbine for play and no issues. Taking the aux belt off tomorrow to eliminate the tensioner and alternator pulleys.

If anyone has had this problem and managed to fix it let me know please

Jim

So much noise in that video I can't pick out what particular noise you are referring to.

If you're trying to pinpoint a noise these Automotive stethoscopes are cheap and can be handy:
Carefully touch it on (none rotating!) parts of your engine - and if it was your timing chain/turbo/alternator/AC compressor/valve train etc.. it should be more obvious.

Is this the same noise?

Is this the same noise?
I can’t really tell from the video as there is a lot of wind noise but from the first little part of the video and how he described it does sound the same .
