Hello,

I've just had my droplinks replaced through warranty. Both of them. The cars only 2 months old and not even covered 800 miles. Is this a common issue or have I just had a dodgy set from the factory?

It's a bit of a concern if they'll need changing this often!

Replaced the drop links on mine about 2 months ago. Opted for bilstien. Still feel solid and no bangs

im on kw coils, so im a tad lower, and yeah they seem to firm the front up being shorter and holding the arb stiffer.

Drop links are not a common issue on the ibiza but they are a common mod as they are very cheap.

If it's not a common issue it's good enough for me. I'll keep my eye on things and see what happens in the next 1000 miles. I'm hoping just a dodgy set from the factory!

Thanks chaps.

Hi Guys,

So 150 miles since my droplinks have been changed the front suspension is getting noisy again.

It's a different noise, I can only describe it as a dull thud/knock, on rough/uneven roads. The suspension is definitely vocal. It's booked back in but I can't get down for another 2 weeks.

Any thoughts what's wrong with my car? it's just ticked over 1,000 miles. Sheffield roads are bad, but I wouldn't expect wear this prematurely?

The rear of my car seems to creak when I'm driving over a bridge at the top of my road... don't know if this is similar?

My old Arosa and my 09 Ibiza creaked at the back over bumps. By chance I drove the Arosa around a trading estate with the the tailgate up and it didnt creak. I noticed that the shiny surface had worn off the black rubber strip around the boot edge.

A smear of vaseline petroleum jelly on the black rubber seal and the problem is solved for another year, as it would seem that the body flexes over bumps and the tailgate moves and rubs the sealing strip.

Check the suspension bushes, mine did that too...
I thought it was in the rear but it wasnt

I mentioned suspension noise (again) when booking my 64 plate FR in for its first service. Apparently there has been a recall bulletin issued very recently but nothing else was forthcoming.

Interesting...

My noise is 100% from the front and definitely a warn bush or something. The droplinks were changed and the new ones are heavily greased up, but this noise I have is different to the drop links.

Curious what this recall is!

So, bit of an update.

The car went back and had both track control arms (I call them tie rods). Since then the car has driven like ****. Really slow to self centre and tramlines depending on the road condition. I still think the front suspension is noisy when compressing (speed bumps/hefty potholes/dips).

Interestingly the track control arms are known issues. The factory which makes them for Seat put too much pre-load. Around 30ton rather than the specified 12ton! It's not a recall though.

Do you really mean TCA ie the lower pressed steel bits will bonded rubber bushes and a swivel for the hub, or do you mean the steering arms which might get called track rods, maybe complete with TREs? These track rods have a sealed ball and socket inner joint that will be stiffish and have a certain articulation effort figure - by preload and huge lumps of it, I can't think of where that could be.

Note:- "made for Seat" should probably read "made for Skoda in CZ" - that might answer a few questions.

Track rods with track rod ends, or tie rods with tie rod ends, whatever you want to call them - as in the arms on the steering rack. The Seat Technician 100% called them track control arms as I remember looking at him funny when he told me. I always see the Track Control Arms as the lower wishbones or alike.

As in these bad boys:

The pre-load is in the inner ball joint which is closest to the steering rack (to the right of this photo). Like I say, he mentioned they have been overloaded from factory making them uber stiff and prone to knocking as they loosen up.
