Hi guys!
If Im going to swap my ABF engine for an 20v 1.8t, what parts except the engine would I need. Most of all, can I keep the ABF gerbox?

Cheers!

You can keep the ABF (02A gearbox) it will easily handle the 20vT and you can also use a VR6 clutch.

Thakns Dave! ;) Something else I should think about before I start? Found a 20v engine with 55000 miles on the clock for 531 pounds! ;)

If you want to keep the OEM ECU then you will need the Mk3 clocks and ignation (I think).... Roly & Martin used the complete Mk3 dashboard! If you want to keep you 16v clocks then maybe aftermarket could be the way DTA, Megasquirt, etc..... BUT the problem is with the aftermarket management is that you will need someone to map it for you, whereas with the OEM ECU you can use the likes of Revo, Custom Code, APR, etc.... stage 1, 2 & 3

Megasquirt is one of the cheaper ECU's you can get, I've DTA on my 16v! I know Chris (chrisdaman) who had the purple Ibiza 1.8 16v supercharged lump? He was running the Megasquirt management!

Have a look at this web site..... Quantum Performance Engineering

You send them your 16v wiring loom and the loom for the 20vT engine and they will put them together basically and supply you with an aftermarket ECU (MBE 992 ECU & 3 bar MAP sensor) so it's basically plug and play!

They also supply a base map (standard map) and a stage 1... surely they could alter more in the future if you do mods!

(wouldn't think I was thinking of doing a 20vT instead of the tb's at one time lol)

Sounds good! So its pretty much just to bolt on the 20v engine and send the wiring loom to QPENG? Does it cost extra to get it mapped?

1.8T MK2 Conversion
its no where near as simple as that in reality... otherwise everyone would have done it :)

Ive got a build thread somewhere on here...
search for my username and conversion mk2 or something similar and youll find it...
Pretty much lists everything needed in there.

QPENG is your best bet for ease of install tough.
Easiest thing to wire up pre built, and uses all existing clocks etc

When I read this thread I was going to suggest the Qpeng option, but Dave beat me to it.

Regarding the Qpeng, could you send off a 1.4 loom and a 20vT loom and would they be able to put them together? Or would an abf loom have to be used??
