Could anybody tell me where the next best switched live is opposed to the one behind the headlight switch, reason being im installing a couple of bits at the moment and have 3 wires tapped into the same switched live at the moment and thought it may be abit dodgy?

Where abouts and exactly what colour wire would be great!

Thanks.

Why not stick a relay in? Get the power diect from the battery and have it switching off the switched live you use now, then you can run as many wires from it as you want and the power will be coming direct from the battery so dont need to worry about overloading.

That sounds like a plan, if only i knew how to do it :( care to talk me through it?:D

What about the head unit wiring as there's a switched live there (thats what I used for my boost gauge).

Yea, it is but only the fact that its built in. It will still have a switched live feeding it at the rear..

I dont think electrics is anyones best subject...

Found this anyway from when Adam R done his amp install guide im sure he used the switched live from the back of the HU for the remote wire for the sub...Not 100% on this though

6) if you are going to wire up the REM to the HU then read this, if not skip to step 7.

undo the 2 screws under neath the HU (left and right side at the front just underneath the facia)
the HU faci should then slowly prize off.

carefull at this point as there is a ribbon cable attached from the facia to the HU behind. detach this and put the facia to one side. (i have not removed the HU but i will give you the best account i can out of memory from other cars) undo maybe 2 screws and then the bottom part of the HU should pull out, you may need some HU pins to pull it out.
once this is done there will be a serise of conectors at the back on the bottom left hand side. the black ISO connector sould have numbers on it in small print, if not then look for the ONLY BLACK WIRE. pair in to this by splicing or soldering. attach the REM cable to the BLACK WIRE then feed it around to the passanger foot well.

put everything back to how it was (regarding the HU and facia)

7)
this way ONLY TURNS ON THE AMP WHEN THE IGNITION IS ON.!
other way of doing it is a bit more of a guessing game, get some one to turn the ignition on and off while you hold a multi metre over an earth and another colour. when ignition is off you want to see 0v, but when turned on you want to be seeing 12v. (will be around 12.4v)
from this cable pair off and this will feed your REM.

This is the full thread with pictures aswell if this helps.

Yeah no worries mate,

1. Purchase one of these relays from maplin

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=6436

2. Purchase some high current wire also from maplin (enough to reach from the battery to wherever to will place the relay, and then from the relay to a decent ground point on the body)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=6200

3. Run some of the high current wire from the positive on the battery to pin 87. Then run a wire from pin 86 to the body ground point, and connect your switched live (the one you usually tap into) to pin 85. When the switched live is on, it will power the coil circuit (pin 85 to 86), this will then trigger the swich in the relay to connect pin 87 to pin 30.

4. Connect all the new live wires you want to pin 30 on the relay, and they will be drawing direct from the battery. The high current wire can accept up to 30 amps so now there is no need to worry about overload. :funk:

Additional info;

• Connect wires to relay using these connectors

Give me a shout if you need any more help. :D

Fantastic posts from both of you!

Thanks very much.

If i decide to go down the relay route ill try and remember to take some pictures and it could be put in the guides section.

In Adam's guide he mentiones a switched live going to the fuse panel as well. Anyone tapped into this before?
