I wonder if you could help a newbie? I've seen a 2000 X redg Leon for sale being advertised as a Cupra but the DVLA says its a T sport. The owner is adamant its a cupra so how do I tell? Did they do a Curpa on a X reg? If it is a T sport what are the differences, Some people claim its the same engine and others say its not. Help, I'm confused!!!

There used to be a T Sport Leon, which had a slightly lower spec than the Cupra (I can't remember exactly what the differences were but I think it didn't had a cd autochanger as standard and a few other things.) Originally the Cupra had such things as rain sensing wipers, auto dimming mirror and electric memory seats. They then deleted the T Sport and compromised on the spec of the Cupra reducing the price at the same time.

There are still a few T Sports for sale on the SEAT UK site.

Edited to say I just remembered that my niece's boyfriend has got a T Sport in a horrible burgundy colour called Bilberry.

It can be the same.

yes you can get an Xreg cupra. they are listed as sport on the V5 by the DVLA as the cupra was basiacally a UK thing where they rebadged then.
(this explains why some cupras have the badge on the other side of the car.

Xreg cupras, (or sport on V5) were actually £18,000 new, as they were high spec.

if you see an X reg if its got leather memory seats, autodimming rear view mirror, auto wiper, the i suggest its a cupra.

Check out Parker's Guide and What Car on-line. The T- Sport was based on the SE with the 1.8 T engine, 6 speed, Cupra Wheels and 6 CD. 180 BHP. The model only ran from launch in 2000 to Sept 2000. The Cupra was out from this date and had the anti-rain dazzle things mentioned above. Which must make it go a lot faster. My 02 Cupra was downgraded for the launch of the Cupra R in 2002 and does not have rain sensors, thankfully.

Just wait 'till you start trying to get after-market parts for it. Expect a lot of "Seat Leno? Cupra? Is that the top sport or the 4WD? No we don't stock anything for that." Then you say what about the Golf MkIV GTi Turbo and you get "Oh yeh we got one for that."

Many thanks for the replys, the owner claims he bought the car from a Seat dealer as a Cupra and its badged as such but the V5 states its a "turbo sport". From what you guys have said it looks as its no big deal either way, the car has cloth trim which I prefere and Cupra alloys so I may go ahead and make him an offer for it.

Sorry to be picky but the rain sensing wipers and anti-dazzle mirror had already been deleted when I bought my 2001 Y reg Cupra new from a UK dealer.

Also, thinking about it, it's really just called the Sport not T Sport. The 'T' is part of the engine spec (1.8 20V T.) I'll shut up now.:)

seriously the sport is the same spec the cupra became in 2001 once it lost its standard extras which are as follows

leather
electric seats
rain sensitive wipers
auto dim rear view mirror.

my car came as standard with electric folding mirrors & auto changer & was badged cupra sport.
