Few bits done on the car today as planned, despite a small issue which I now need to sort out, but it's nothing serious.

Started by taking the Forge 008 off and apart to fit the new piston I got free of charge from Kris @ Forge. However, there was no need to. The piston sent out is the same as the one I have, no difference at all, and on the current one, no uneven wear or general wear at all so it's been left on. The 008 hasn't been on a long time so I'll fit the new piston towards the end of the year once it's been on 12 months or so.

I did make a small change though, and fitted two of the shims I had in the 008 box. I've not tested the car properly so can't comment much on boost, but I did move it back out the garage and up the drive again earlier and all seemed fine with the dv. I've read some people have found the shims to help boost further on stage 2 cars so I'll see how it runs on the next run out.

So it began

I got some silicone hosing in the week (thanks for the link richy cupra) and thought I'd have a go at fitting some of it today.

Hose by manifold was the first. The metal sleeve has to be cut off so I used a hack saw and then pulled it off with some wire cutters as you can't go more than the sleeve or you'll go through the pipe you need to connect the silicone hose to.. Cut the hose down and fitted with new jubilee's.

Then I decided to use some of the leftover hosing from my DV re location kit to make up a shorter bung off the charge pipe where the old DV hose ran. I still had the OEM pipe running off this to where the DV used to sit and put the bung in but I wondered if making it shorter would help responsiveness at all. So I ended up with this which is much neater:

Now for the annoying bit, and the charcoal canister lid decided that part of it was going to be very brittle and break off at the slightest bit of leverage on the OEM clips. I need to source a new one from eiither Dave at Sere or TPS this week but bank holiday Monday will delay it a bit. Hopefully I'll get it sorted before the rr day at AmD as it's leaking air all over the show with the engine running at the mo. My plan was to replace the piping running off this towards the back of the bay with a nice red silicone one instead. Oh well, will sort this out over the week.

You can see where the spout on the right of the lid should extend out by an inch or so, but instead it's sheared off

Took the Forge sticker off the engine cover too while I thought of it, will look better in the bay now for sure.

Oh and I had some time to get my LED lights out ready for a modification which I'll sort tomorrow now. Stuck the old set in and called it a day pretty much.

Pretty sure I have my charcoal canister in the garage babe if you want it its yours

Legend! I'll take it please :) Is the top part all ok? Literally need the very top lid on it guessing this comes off separately? Looks like it did to me earlier.

Great stuff Tom! It's amazing how brittle plastic becomes over time isn't it. Dan's saved you some notes; nice one Dan. Seems like the weather is drying up a little bit (although we had some snow flurries today) so hopefully you'll be able to start to enjoy your diff :)

Cheers mate. The sheared off nozel is still in the oem piping so if I can prize that out maybe I'll leave the silicone off.

Text me and let me know I'm not going to be on here tonight.

Very brittle mate, literally the first attempt at prizing the rubbish oem metal clip off and the whole nozel gave way. Very poor! Hopefully Dan still has his and all will be sorted.

And yeah, well here's to hoping on the weather, it's been the worst winter I can remember. Hopefully by the time of all the shows it's nice and warm. The diff has been properly tested out so far this year still mate. Usually in the wet which has been an experience, lol  :-o

Good updates Tom, have you still got more hoses on the way?? Resistors in tomorrow as well then?

Cheers mate. No more hoses on the way no, I've still got plenty of the 8mm to use as I wish though. Going to do the small one off the coolant tank soon also, lost interest after the canister nozel sheared off, lol.

Dan's popping round tomorrow with the one he has so hopefully have it sorted then :)

I think May is going to be a good month for the car though :D

Rather that try to take that plastic lid off, if the donor one you're getting still has the pipework just trace it back and remove the other end of the rubber hose from the metal pipe at the bulkhead, less chance of further breakages that way!

True, I'll see what's what when I sort it out. The charcoal canister is the only plastic connection around that area, annoying why it wasn't metal like the rest.

Looking good. Have you solved the problems with you rear LED lights?

Cheers mate. On the lights, no the resistors haven't been sorted yet, once I'm happy with the tint I'm putting on them and they're all back in and working I'll look to sort the resistor issue out.

I did the coolant one mate the other month. I made the mistake of re using the old clip and it just leaked everywhere so put a new clip on it! Thought I'd blown something at first lol. The stuff I used was only thin stuff so may end up changing as it wants to collapse on the bend sometimes .

Most of the clips/connections on the 1.8 T annoy me tbh, just use decent jubilee's ffs.

Might get some wheels in May. Will see how it pans out. Car is a due a major service also and I'm in two minds to get that done first.

Lol, na you can't use the old clips they're utter crap. I always replace them with jubilees.

Did you get your hosing from the ASH website too? Mine was a bit grubby when it arrived tbh, but the quality is good.

His r32 is looking ruder than ever. Take my hat off to him for his approach for making it stand out so well. It also got a thumbs up from my neighbour Rob who owns a Supercar detailing firm.

Well the only big thing, lol. Replacing the OEM ones isn't easy as others have found out as the originals still look good today. Got three of four different sets in mind but one more so than the others :) Don't want to say until I take the plunge, lol.

Dan said today you can remove the canister and resistor it out with a bit of work. I'm not too fussed about it being there so will just fit this one he's given me and leave it be.

Mmm agree with you there, i keep looking at rota's lately but they just seem too expensive  Whatever ones you choose im sure will suit it nicely bud :D

I thought you could remove it but if it requires resistors and that i personally wouldn't bother tbh

Keep looking at Rota's because they're not on my list :p Hopefully what I have in my mind will work out, but you're never going to be sure until they're on the car.

Will hopefully fit the charcoal canister tomorrow and maybe re fit the LED's to the car ;)

Sounds the same I got it from eBay, the bigger hose is ash (19mm) as its stamped on it but the 8mm one is just plain blue silicone mate.
