I had some T1RS on my old Mk4, good in the dry and reasonable performance in the wet, decent all round tyre for the money, definitely a good mid range tyre.

Spend some extra and go for a Michelin Pilot sport. I've never driven on a better tyre for everyday driving If I'm honest

I've had experience with both T1R's and rainsports.

If I had to pick it would be the t1r's, however they arent the best out there as I mentioned in my previous post.

I had uniroyal rainsports on my clio trophy and tbh, they were useless in the wet and the dry and that was on a good chassis, I can't imagine how crap they will feel on a worse chassis like the cupra.

Go for the michelins like I said, that little extra spent will be worth it in the long run, both in the dry and the wet.

I've run both on my car and prefer Rainsports.

I ran T1-R and found them good in the wet when new, very soft and coped in cold weather (far better than my previous GY GSD3s) and good in dry. However being soft they wore very quickly and once worn aquaplaned very easily.

I then bought Rainsport 2s and now love them. I replaced them with the same. As the name suggests they are great in the wet, especially with 9mm of tread when new (most tyres new have 7-8mm). However Uniroyal recently started producing Rainsport 3 so the 2s are becoming very hard to find. Some people find they have soft sidewalls which are more prone to punctures from potholes.

When I next need tyres I'm not sure to go for Goodyear Asymmetric 2s as they get very good results in tyre tests or to try the yet untested Rainsport 3s.

However I would thought at this time of year you should consider Winter tyres, rather than these summer type tyres.

I've run both on my FR TDi and can vouch that the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 is a better all-rounder and lasts much, much longer than the Toyo T1R. As mentioned above, the T1R's are excellent when new but as they wear they become pretty poor in damp/wet weather whereas the Rainsport 2s keep performing thanks to the 3-dimensional design on them

have a look at their website for more details...but imo there's no better all-round tyre for under £100 per corner (215/40R17)

rainsport 2s are give you more confidence and feedback...also quieter :)
