TDi 150 - 60k mile service

Morning all.

My car is currently at 54,500 miles, it will soon be due its 60k mile service.

I have just been quoted 394.12 inc VAT for belt change and service from TMC Canterbury (ex seat dealer) where the car was purchased from and serviced before I purchased it.

Now, I have owned the car 2 months, will be keeping it at least 5 years, is it worth me forking out, (basically for the stamp in the book) or shall I just go about doing as I have done with my previous cars and get the parts at trade price from a main dealer and me and a mate fit them over a weekend??


I am confused, and my wallet has just ran away and hid under the stairs :headhurt:
 
do what you can afford and feel best with.

somebody will say get independent, some will say search as comes up often, soem witll say main dealer.

i'm a Muppet with mechanical and got seat to do it for 300 inc and the water pump at crewe.

I've just been quoted £385 + VAT for my 60k service and Cambelt change. Break down as follows.......

£120 - Service
£195 - Cambelt
£40 - Water Pump change
£30 - Brake fluid change

Phew.......I'm still in shock!!

That's a very good price, I got charged £510 incl vat for the same, service, pump, cambelt kit but no brake fluid change.

All I would say is make sure it is a kit including the tensioners and not just the belt. More often than not its the tensioner that goes and not the belt. I had to ask for the kit as all garages including main dealer were quoting just the belt. The kit is not cheap - can't remember but somthing like £80+VAT for the parts - £20 for the belt, £60 for the kit.

You're going about it the right way mate. Job done et al.
 
Yeh get the tensioner done.

I had my belt changed a while ago and now it's back in for the tensioner.

Thing is I didn't know anything about them so when my mechanic guy said it 'only needs the cheaper kit' I was chuffed. If I'd known down the line it'd need the rest I would have pushed for the other!

Incidentally I don't unse that mechanic anymore as last time he didn't tighten my left front wheel nuts!
I can't use my old tyre fitting place anymore either as last time they didn't balance the wheels.

Hard to find quality work isn't it? And I'm really subborn if silly mistakes are made once I don't return.

Good independant garage in Bradford anyone?

Cheers Chris, I'll give them a ring tomorrow or Monday, well annoyed the SEAT dealer hasn't rung me today, again, I rang at half 8 and was told "just getting a price, we'll ring you later". Goits.

Just had an independant do my 60k service with cambelt for £385 incl. VAT... this included the water pump, full service with VW 505.01 oil, full cambelt kit and fitting... i think that was everything - seems like a great price looking at what main dealers quote!
 
Dealer finally rang me this morning and in my drunken haze just agreed for them to do the work, £311 for the whols cambelt job, and everything, didn't sound too bad.

Barnsley is a bit far yeh, same town then I can bus it to work when I don't have a car.

Will ring Crown next time I have anything to do.

£311 inc VAT for a full cambelt change?

Which dealer is that?
 
Leeds Seat run by JCT600, up near Yeadon.

As far as I know it's inc VAT, like I said was half asleep when they rang and all I really remember is him saying is he was would change it all and it came to that. Oh he also mentioned I need new rear pads but I knew that and they're in the kitchen with my new ARBs lol.
 
I got quoted £314 inclusive of VAT by David Penham of Darlington recommended main dealer for cambelt change (full kit). But this did not include the water pump.

If I were you dysco boy, get the pump changed at the same time. These VAG units fail regularly. IIRC the pump was about £50 for the part itself.

Just got my car back and the total price was £423.47 which includes the VAT. We'll I suppose that's me for another 60k miles!!:clap:

I've just rung them, they will ring me back in 10mins for a chat as he is just in the middle of a MOT.

I think the front one takes about 2 hrs because they have to drop the sub-frame, the rear one is quite easy apparently.

Just had my ARBs fitted. Was gonna be £250 plus a drive to Warrington from Bradford but rang National Tyres just down the road and they told me to call in and they'd have a look. Looked. Asked when I wanted it doing and I said whenever they could fit me in so they did it then. £125 for front and rear fit and wheel alignment. Told me to come back in a couple of weeks when things bedded in and if I need the rear changed from middle setting. They're sweet, understeer well sorted out now.
