TDI 150 mpg

OK,

for those of us who have had our cars a short while now, how are you finding the mpg?

Ive been driving mine fairly gently. Mainly A Roads between 50-70 mph.

So far Ive averaged 46mpg according to the computer. In my Golf GT TDI 140, I got 58mpg on the same route.

Im just assuming that this is down to the engine being so new and needing a good few miles to loosen off!

I will fill it up next weekend and do a manual calculation of mpg.

Im hoping for 60mpg on the same journeys as above.....

Your new car will be the common rail engine and have a poxy dpf etc too, supposed to be better for emissions but not for mpg from what I keep reading. I spend a lot of time on vag tdi forums.
I'd imagine a dpf delete and tune would probably improve the mpg's but not to sure on the newer engines. Might be worth looking into though.

It should loosen up a lot but will take miles...lots of miles, it'll get quicker too. Plus the low temps won't help much.

I'm well impressed with the 1.4 TSI, it's getting 45-50 without any effort at all!

Does the 1.4 TSi on the Leon come with Active Cylinder Technology like the Golf?

45-50 is pretty good, I've been considering this engine as I keep hearing great thinks but not sure if I could live without the rather huge amount of torque my remapped TDi has. I suppose I'll have to drive this and the 184bhp TDi (when it arrives!) to see the difference.

As far as I know, only one engine to have it is the all new 1.4 TSi 140 ACT (apart from the Audi S7 which I believe has it too).

Audi and VW make a big deal about on there websites but it doesn't mention it anywhere on the Seat one, so this made me wonder if it did have ACT or not...

mmmmm pretty sure I read somewhere that all of them have it now. Will see if I can find it somewhere. I think it was mentioned in one of the reviews.

The current 1.4 TSI 140PS does not have ACT (Cylinder Shutdown).
I read somewhere that it will not be availble until early next year! Not sure why?

Still, the mpg and CO2 figures look pretty good to me.

It doesn't have ACT, nor would I want it. It's too early for me, it's the first engine with it, which makes me not trust it just yet.

Plus the mpg is good enough for me anyway!

Yes mate, but I was comparing it with the 2011 mk6 golf gt tdi that I traded in. So it was akso a common rail dpf equipped engine.

Just odd how the golf did 10mpg more than the Leon.

Like I say, early days......will wait for a fill up to get a better idea, maybe the fuel computer under reads?

there has been some articles lately about the MPG figures people achieve in the 'real world' compared to the cyclic tests and that most people get less than they expected.
As a result manufacturers now have to highlight on adverts that you may not get the figures quoted.

Of the list i saw, SEAT was the worst manufacturer for getting less MPG than quoted..

Ah I thought you were maybe talking about the Mk5 with the BKD PD lump. But yeh, I think even though I can get nearly 70mpg's out of my Mk4 I'd probably still prefer to have your car lol

I agree with that, worst cars I've ever had (LCR & Exeo ST tdi) for being way off their published mpg figures.

As long as I can get 60MPG+ (on long motorway runs) out of the 2.0 TDI FR I am having then I will be happy.

Mmm, not sure if you will manage that buddy?

Ive just hit 800 miles in mine and am showing an average of 47mpg.
Driving has been mostly on quiet A roads at 50-70mph..

I as expecting more TBH, but as I said originally, maybe it will increase as the engine looses off.

My 40k 140 cr manages high 40's low 50's and that's trying to drive economically. It was high 40's and low 30's before new turbo and service. I struggle to believe 60mpg is achievable on an average unless you've only got one seat in the car lol

My mk2 gets around 45-55 depending on how slow the people I'm following are and if the air-con is on. Hoping the 184 is a bit better, supposedly the mpg difference between the 150 and 184 aren't that big.

Bummer, my ALH 90 tuned to 174bhp gets like 65mpg on the motorway, maybe down to 60mpg's if I'm up at 90mph or so.
