TDI 2.0 Stuttering and hesitation at 3000 ish RPM - What next?

was the DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) in my case. Estimate cost to fix was approx £1600 due to DSG and non of my local garages having the knowlwedge to do the job without fear of messing things up, so sold it and moved on.

Hope it's not the same for you...

It became clear mine was the DMF when it started rattling and making a metal on metal noise when really cold last winter.

Don't even know if my FR 170 diesel has a DMF, certainly no DSG.

From what I've read on the VW sites I think it may be related to fuel flow rates and a failing fuel pump, but time will tell.
 
My 07 FR Tdi 58000 miles seems to be suffering exactly same problem. Terrible when cold will barely rev to 4000 and stutters all the way between 3000 & 4000 (if it gets there). When its at normal temp things improve a lot but if I give plenty beans i can tell the the power is down on what it used to be.
I am going to book the car in sometime next week because I also have the ESP light perm on problem and ask if any faults are logged that may indicate what the stuttering problem may be.
I understand the ESP problem will require a new abs unit just hope SEAT will help out. Had the car since 6 months old 4 x SEAT service & 2 x by Independant who used to be SEAT dealer.
Always open to any suggestions or things to try which may improve the situation.
 
mitchathome - sounds the same mate. Had mine into dealers, no ecu errors and injectors ok so they don't know what to do.
I've searched Seat and VW forums with no definitive answer.

Not good.
 
I've just had Campaign "23J6 Piezo pump injector elements" done yesterday and it seems to be fixed. I'll have to use it for a few days though in case they just did an ecu reset or had the battery disconnected for a while and thats masking it.
 
When i first got my 140TDI back in June 2010 i had the same issue, if i went to overtake in 3rd / 4th /5th and also pushing on driving on the motorway i noticed a stutter around 3500rpm - 4000rpm. The grage i bought the car from had it in and out of there work shop for months. Changing seels and all sorts, also had an issue with turbo and the vaines. after 2 months of mechanics scratching there heads they removed the fuel filter, and replaced as it ws completely clogged, also cleaned out all the fuel lines. This then stopped the issue and 20k later still plain sailing driving for me no flat spots when accelerating hard or overtaking. :D

I nticed at the begining of the thread you say you had the fuel filter replaced, do you know if they cleaned out the lines aswell??
 
Thank you silver surfe & adam1811, read your posts and thought oh well I can't do any harm changing a filter. Well went out today to local VW bought said filter and fitted. The old filter was black but I understand they all come out this colour, but the fuel left behind in the canister was black !! and I mean black you could not see the bottom of the canister. I cannot post pictures yet but when I poured the fuel out into a clear container you could not see through it at all.
Anyway new filter installed (did air filter as well) I fired her up and went for a short drive to get the fuel going and then check there were no leaks. After checking there were no leaks went to find a bit of open road to open her up and whoooosh !! what a difference, the revcounter spun round the dial all the way to 5000 whereas before after it got to 3000 acceleration would tail off and it would barely reach 4000. There is no hint of hesitation and accelerates smoothly all the way through the rev range.
I am now a very happy bunny and feel I now have the car that I used to have. It just about smoothes out the sting I got when I had to pay £200 as my 50% contribution to get the ABS pressure sensor problem fixed.
So for me the fuel filter change appears to be a 100% fix and I didn't even get round to taking the EGR off and cleaning that out. So for the price of a filter and no more than 30 mins of your time for those of you suffering this problem it's worth giving it a go.

Same problem here..... one fuel filter later, and I could tell by blipping the throttle whilst stationary that the car was better. Acceleration was 10 fold better through every gear, all the way to 5000rpm. I'd not even realised it had gotten that bad.

Incidentally, old fuel filter was very oily..... anyone know if this is normal?

My cruise control works on mine!

But have similar issues where sometimes the power just don't seem to be there and when on motorway it really struggles to get over 80mph to a 100mph when usually this is fine!

I also notice when I fill the car up with diesel it's very jerky and stuttery when trying to accelerate!

Less diesel I have the less it stutters!

Any idea guys?
 
How much is a fuel filter if I take it to an independent garage! Any anything else I can ask them to do which will be related to the fuel filter?

Please advise as I'll be going on Saturday to do this as they need change my tyres over after putting them on the wrong way!

New filter's about £15, and you can fit it yourself in about 20 minutes.....
 
had injectors done - still the same.
this issue is defo worse when its cold outside.

any more ideas?
