Hi, got a mk4 golf tdi which has developed a fuel leak under the drivers side. it seems to be coming out of a metal pipe which goes into something looking like a heater? does anyone know a name for this part and a part number if possible? thanks

It will be most likely a VW Dealer job and at a guess it will be more than £100. My brother had to fit one on his caddy not long ago and that was over £100 iirc.

I think I have the same problem at the moment. Is it safe to drive the car if this is happening?

I have the car booked into Volksmaster on Tuesday for cambelt, aux belt and full service, and I can ask them to diagnose and repair. Does anyone have the part number?

Fuel leak

I managed to get a good second hand one of eBay with was £50. A new one from vw was £150 with a 10% discount he said! I put some heat shrinking over the pipes to protect them abit. We were driving it for a few weeks and all as I can say is don't let it drip on a Tarmac drive if you have one haha. Part number is 1j0201894a. Hope this helps - james

Thanks James! I think I will use the car and then drop it into Volksmaster and let them deal with it. Who knows? It might be something else. But, whatever happens, the bill is going to be huuuuuuuuuuuge!

No probs mate. If you look under the car by the drivers door at floorplan you will see the cooler. If you undo the 4 screws on the black plastic cover and then run the car you will see it seeping out of one of the pipes if it's the same as ours. Really easy to replace. Hope all goes well. James.

I have found one on eBay, but I am unsure as to whether it is the same problem or not. It goes for some time where it doesn't leak and then it leaks. Strange?!

Leak

Whereabouts is the leak underneath the car? If you look under the drivers door you will see straight away.

Just to check - is the part number the same for a SEAT Leon TDi 130 SE?

VAGcat shows the same part number for the ARL engined Leon and Toledo. I strongly suspect that there is just one fuel cooler used on all the PD engines.

VAGcat doesn't list ASZ as a Leon/Toledo engine at all. I think the online catalogs there are several years old.

I went to a scrapyard to try and get hold of one at first. I found one on a skoda fabia but it was different. Dunno if that helps?

Volksmaster has called, stating that it is the fuel cooler - a minuscule pin-hole in the cooler. A new one from VAG is in the region of £190ish, which is a lot! I'll confirm the part number with them and have a look around a few breakers to see if it can be got cheaper. Or alternatively, I will keep an eye on eBay.

Regarding fitting, is it a case of unscrewing/unbolting the old one and fitting on the new/replacement one?
