Is this a PD or a non-PD ?

I assume the latter as the timing checker is for non-PDs only IIRC...

I presume it means injection timing is too retarded ? As opposed to cam timing.

I don't know much about the non-PD engines, but vaguely recall the injection timing is adjusted by slackening and rotating the pump ?

Yes i think it means injection timing.

can runs fine otherwise, but i want to get it sorted to be just right and get the engine running at its optimum

ive read that you need to loosen the 3 bolts and turn clockwise to advance it, but i would rather someone who has done it before to do it.

if anyone on here can help, i would be greatfull - of course i will sort them out
ive got vag-com to check it once its done

went to this porsche specialist who also deals with vw's.

said the engine sounded a bit tappety and he could have a look at the car,but talking about £70 odd and he's fully booked for a while.

anyone on here do it?

Where in the country do you live!

do a search for the hammer mod on tdiclub.com

I was going to suggest that but nowadays its best to do it the right way which is by a re-programming of the ecu.

The trouble with the hammer mods is that yes it very well may cure the low down over fuel situation if you can't fine adjust it with vag-com , but it will make every where else in the rev-range a little lite on fueling giving overall less performance.
