Your Leon was gorgeous mate, was looking at pics of it earlier :)

There terrible Cars' dont get one ;)

I know that was a joke, but I wouldn't buy another one!

They seem to be the same as the golf but not screwed together as well - in my experience!

Only get a diesel if you can't afford the petrol running costs. They are noisy and a bit rough at slow speeds but good on the motorway.

I wouldn't say my Golf is screwed together all that well.. Ok it's lowered and all that but the insides creak something chronic lol.

I guess I just want a newer low mile car but to be fair it sounds much of the same and I'll probably soon end up replacing the same kind of stuff which has already been done on mine...

Shame I aint got 15k in the bank or something, it seems impossible to buy a problem free car or at least change cars around the 4 grand mark and have even a year of problem free motoring.

Can't win :( lol

I was being very negative because I'm fed up of spending cash on my car and wondering what will break next! They're not really bad cars, perhaps I just resent having to buy a diesel!

It's a tough call, you may just be best keeping your Golf as you know the car, you wont get much if you sell it, and to buy something else for 4k would be a pretty big risk IMO.

Unless you buy something with a 1.2 engine in it....

Won't a stage 2 map be working the standard intercooler fairly hard? Or do they have a front mount as standard? Or just a side mount like the Golf's. Thats a really good result if thats all you'd done at the time!

Yes it is working it hard but it will get you stage 2 numbers. Youll suffer without the fmic during the summer months so worth upgrading when you can from the side mount.

Youll need dog bone mounts, rear arb and decent tyres to use the power properly, brakes are very much improved with decent pads.

No car is perfect, but VAG group cars are extremely well made as a rule. Your Golf issues don't sound too bad, and 140k is pretty good. I've never had a car live past £120k miles.

Leon problems tend to be coil packs and leaky door seals and rear washers. Wiper motor is a standard VAG part common to them all. A pain to have to replace, but not a massive job.

Spent a **** load on mine since buying it in April fixing things then breaking things and fixing more for more to break lol but she's done 128,000 miles and still runs sweet love the look love the feel love the sound love the car and don't regret spending a penny (except paying for someone to fit my catch tank wrong) all in all very good car

you can buy any car at any price and you'll have a list of common faults the only difference I'd you won't know them on something at least if you get a leon you know what's to come and know how to fix it ;)

True that lol. I think I'm gonna just stick with my car for a while longer... it's running well, just needs the front end bushes refreshing so gonna get some supersport top mounts drop it another 10mm in the process as it's a bit rear down at the moment... new ball joints, track rod ends, wishbone bushes (Audi TT bigger rear bushes on the wishbone, guess thats common for you guys too lol) and alignment.

The car drives way better than it's milage suggests but I have a bit of rust on my boot under the rear window where water collects which is driving me mad, gone properly nasty after winter so thats a couple hundred quid as it's a window out job.

Cars... never ending money pits! I'm lucky with mine being an earlier AGU engine, not a lot goes wrong at all, even the coilpacks are known solid :p Just needs that bigger turbo!

Thanks for all the input guys.

PS: my back washer is buggered too, the brass pipe running from inside, through the window to outside has snapped lol.

disagree' ive had both Cupra tdi and Petrol, id take the petrol any day, all cars have there flaws, but the 20VT lump is very good and good reputation, look what people have transplanted into, Renault 5's new/old mini's etc only thing i can agree with is a few annoying dash rattles you have to fix

My 2p worth

ive had my LC 180 25 months now, just over 2 years,

the car has been bulletproof engine wise,

(dec 2008)I paid 6k for a 2003 Facelift Flash red Leon cupra with 36K ish on the clock,

since then its had

x5 coolant temp sensors, £40 FAILED
x1 cambelt & waterpump £120 fitted myself SERVICE DUE
x4 new disks and pads all round, £100 fitted myself WORN
x1 New brake servo £110 fitted myself FAILED
x1 3rd brake light £60 FAILED
x1 thermostat £10 FAILED
x1 N75 £40 FAILED
x1 Y Pipe £30 FAILED
x4 Oil + Filter, £220

so for 30k miles later of enthusiasic driving, £710 in 25 months to keep it on the road is bugger all, granted it could be around the 1200 mark if you get work done by the dealers etc, but all in all i think £355 a year to keep a car on the road is nothing considering the actual age and performance they have,

residual value still holds 4.5-5k so they dont really depreciate drastically,

30K in over two tears :p use done nearly 20K in 10 months  lol

try 120k in 24 months in a van :p, the leon only stays on the drive in the day

transit connect 75bhp t200,, puts cupras to shame! :p

thats some mileage though 20k!

Wow that's impressive ;) lol

Yea its quite abit but have to use the car for work so....

Yea I bet lol I drove my bros astra the other day (1.8 16V) god was it slow :( lol

Mines had basically 100 quid a month on average spent on repairs including a new cambelt, waterpump, thermostat, single mass conversion as clutch and DMF failed lol, brakes and loads of other crap. And I've had it 16 months.. So I'm used to spending money but would like to avoid doing so :D Think I'm best sticking with mine for a while, get me monies worth :)

I need to abuse that little ko3 so I can put it to good use don't I? lol

I've had my X reg (2001) lean Cupra for 2 years now. I've only had a couple of issues with it since buying it

1 X coilpack gone
1 X MAF sensor
Clutch pedal broken 3 times (once probably due to age and other times due to bad weld on the fixed pedal), new pedal cost £26

Other than that i've just spent money on servicing it.

I've had the leaky door seals but who hasn't with a leon. Simple fix though.

Maybe I've been lucky and got one that was looked after well. That's the key, if it's been well looked after (serviced regularly with OE parts) the engine should last well (200k plus miles).
