Text message/voice control from media unit

Got a question about the unit in my car, for some reason when I press the voice control button all it does is mute the stereo and not actually allow me to use any of the voice control features, does this require some form of set up or should it just work?

Also the audible reading of text messages from your phone, is this something that is unit/phone specific? I assume it is.

Does the head unit support voice control?

Yeah I think the audible text message is specific to the phone and unit.

My guess is you have media system 2.1, unfortunately it doesn't support voice control

I do yeah, 2.1. Really!!! That's pathetic. What I don't get is my car is 6 months newer than brinkz motor yet his supports the voice control!!

yeah 2.0 and 2.2 both support it

your on the other hand can be controlled by the head unit while his cant

with 2.0 you can only access the phone book on the MFD in front of you
with 2.1 you can only access the phone book on the sat nav screen
with 2.2 you can see it in both places

Not something I have seen thou I can use Siri to read my messages out

Maybe that's a phone thing rather than head unit

I don't know but it's read via the head unit, the system asks you if you want to read a text message when it comes in, you say yes and it reads it back to you

Yeah, my guess would be the phone but there must be something in the unit to make use of the feature. All I know is the phone is using the windows os

Lol at poor Leigh. I can just picture you stomping around the living room and kicking the poor dog.

It certainly is a phone thing with the text messages. If i put the phone on silent the car wont read.
