After years of telling everyone who will listen that I'm buying a Seat Leon and not making it happen, it soon got to the point where i was getting on everyone's nerves and even my own! But no more! On Monday 2nd July i finally went balls deep and bought one!

The search has been for lack of a better phrase "a pain in the arse" and i think Ive looked at nearly every single Leon that's come up for sale in the last few years. I knew exactly what i wanted and it was important that the Leon checked most of the boxes before id even consider going to have a look at it.

My specifications where:
* It needed to have as low mileage as possible as hoping to do a bit of travelling
* diesel pd150 as i cover alot of miles and petrol and insurance prices would destroy me
* preferably black (red was a massive no due to alot of bad luck with red cars)
* 2005 Reg
* full service history with cam belt and water pump changed plus regular oil changes
* cupra r front bumper
* cupra r wheels
* cruise control
* folding mirrors
* arm rest
* leather seats
* Budget of £5000

Alot of the pd150's i looked at were of the 80k + mark, and although i knew that to these engines that's nothing i still found it difficult to part with my cash. Finally i came across a silver fr 150 with 55K miles on the clock for £5700 and a fully stamped service book! Only problems i had was that the garage didn't know if it had the cam belt and pump done but told me that he would do it all for £100! also it was way out of my budget but was well worth it. I went home and racked my brain working out how i could afford it and finally came to a solution, but when i phoned the next day it was sold =(

Couple of weeks past and i was getting pretty depressed as i now i had a taste for such low mileage it made looking at anything with more deeply unattractive, as stupid as it sounds. Just when i had had enough i decided to expand my search from 60 miles to 200 miles! To my surprise 2 beauties popped up! Both were a 100 miles away, one silver cupra 2004 with leather seats, cruise control, arm rest the lot! for £5000 from a private seller and the other was a black fr from a garage without the leather seats and arm rest for £5475 but was black and 2005! both were at 52k miles only! I couldn't believe it and i simply didn't know which one to choose! It was late at night so had to wait until the next day until i could contact anyone but i was very excited.

The next day on my break at work i got my phone out and searched for the silver one but found it had been sold! I couldn't believe it had happened to me again! so i phoned the black one up straight away and with my fingers crossed i asked if it was still for sale. To my surprise it was! After a series of emails and sending me scans of the service book (full service history with services every 10000 miles or less! and cam belt changed 3000 miles ago) i knew i had to have it! Yet again i encountered another problem though which was i was working nights and had an operation in 2 days time which meant the earliest i could see it was in 5 days time at the earliest! After the luck id been having i knew that i had to do something to secure it at least until i could look at it, so i emailed him asking him if he could hold it for me. I knew i was asking alot from him so wasn't surprised when he said he would only hold it if i put a £250 deposit down on it. This wasn't ideal as meant i was basically saying i was going to buy a car that i hadn't even looked at! To cut a long story short i paid the £250 anyway but stated that if the car wasn't as clean as he described that id want my deposit back.

I had my operation and a few days later it was finally time to go and see it, all the way in Leeds! (i live near brum) My Dad drove and it was the most painful 2hrs 30 mins of my life as the operation i had was on the base of my back, but we finally got there with the aid of some strong pain killers. The dealer didn't let me down and the Leon was even better than id hoped! I was taken on a test drive with the dealers son and he opened it up and i was blown away! Was funny though because at this point we heard a siren from behind us and he **** himself!! lmao luckily it was an ambulance.

The papers were signed and the money was exchanged and now i am the owner of a shiny black Leon FR 55 reg with 52k miles on the clock =D

My Dad again drove it back as i still couldn't drive =( and it made him smile all the way home lol He was like a kid and was blown away by the sheer power of it. My Mom also had ago later on that night and she also turned into a kid so i think Ive discovered the fountain of youth in car form! who'd of knew?

Ive only had a lil blast in it (albeit a painful one) and cant wait until Im all healed up and able to see what she can do =D

Got plenty of plans and look forward to keeping you guys updated.

Thanks for reading the essay and here she is =D

I don't think you'll be disappointed. My requirements were slightly different from yours, as detailed in my thread here, but like you I ended up travelling a fair way to get the right car. (Darlington from Kent).

Petrol Cupra and LCR drivers will tell you that their cars are better, but I find the TDI 150 to have more than enough power for anything I want to do, and as long as you drive it appropriately (i.e. not like a petrol-engined car) it shines - especially in daily driving, as its performance in traffic is excellent.

Haha the petrol vs diesel argument will always be around i think but you take what you want from the car at the end of the day don't you? I only had a quick drive in it earlier and really enjoyed the drive and was surprised at how easy it was! I have got to learn to drive it like a diesel though after 5+ years of driving petrol so any help/tips are appreciated.
Il have a look at your rr now =D

Finally got my fascia through the post today so got cracking on with my head unit. Its the one i had in my last car and is a good unit with Ipod control, but i am going to be replacing this with a double din at some point in the future.

The Aura

Removing via keys for anyone who struggles. Slide in and push handles away from stereo to unhook clasp inside.

Connections on the back of the Aura

Finally the correct wiring so it turns off when i remove the key and saves the memory.

And finished! I think it looks much better than the Aura and the sound quality is much better. Ran the Ipod cable down to the ashtray so i can hide it away and serves as a nice little holder for the Ipod aswell.

Ashtray decided to break on me yesterday and all i did was open it and then it wouldn't stay closed. So seeing as replacing the head unit as giving me the bug i decided to take the ashtray out (Thanks Pab) and have a crack at fixing it.

So i took the ashtray out and after a bit of head scratching i discovered that right at the back a metal pin had broken off. The metal pin follows a path inside the unit and keeps the tray closed. Ive circled where it was although its hard to see here.

Bit closer

Ashtrayfrontcopy.jpg

This is from behind and you can see at arrow 1 the broken plastic where it used to hold the pin and at arrow 2 you can see the pathway the pin should follow.

Backofashtraycopy.jpg

It was way to tight to get the pin back in and glue it up so i split the unit into half by pulling it off the runners carefully. You will need to try and push the side wall apart to give you enough space but its easy enough, just be brave.

Heres the pin

Pincopy.jpg

Here is the snapped holder for the pin. Unfortunatley i didnt take any pics after this but basically i stuck the pin back in, pushed the little bits of plastic back into place and glued it in place with some super glue.

Snappedhole.jpg

I then pushed both parts of the ashtray back together, lining up the runners and it went back together very easily. Putting the spring back was a bit trickier but can be done from behind with some patience.

Hopefully this will help someone but either way it saved me some money lol

Cheers Poliq =D I did have to miss out on one or two things from the list but I got the most important ones thankfully. Im not too fussed though as it gives me the chance to put them in myself which is always fun. Tbh it was the service history and the minimal 52k on the clock that sold it to me in the end. Got to say though that Ivan see why all the owners on here fall in love with their Leon's!

So gave her a quick wash the other day in the baking sun which i now realize is not a good idea. I also discovered why people say that black cars are the worst to keep clean as it looks worse than before i started =(

Serious? Might try and squeeze it in then but doubtful. Need to try and find the thread again on how to do it first, that's the biggest test lol

Cheers, I'm pretty damn happy with her tbh and well worth the wait. Head unit was so easy to fit and only took about 15 mins to do if that. Makes such an improvement over the aura unit and imo looks much better. Going to get a double din as soon as I recover from the dent it's made in my bank account and then it's upgrading the speakers and installing my sub as I'm missing the dirty bass =D
