today i was servicing my Polo ...haha, im a joke when it comes to mechanics as some people might have guessed but i like to have a go (its a funny read for when your bored),

my oil change procedure:

first i had to find a nice sunny day ...which this morning was. jackd up the car, knew it was 19mm got the spanner ready found the plug and go to turn ...little bugger is stuck on ...WD40 few minutes and away we go it starts turning.
got the old oil container ready, cut up, on its side ....and the stream of warm black oil completly ...missed the target!!! ok ok so i got a bit of oil on the drive no stress...
next is the oil filter..start panicing because i realise i dont have a filter chain thing ...but there is a big hex nut on the filter so i can use a spanner ..non of my spanners were big enough this nut was like probably a 30mm!!! so i get the adjuastable spanner and away i go turning and its getting loose get the bowl ready and again no aim whatsoever!!! ...splash splosh on the drive. then the spanner comes loose and splashes into the bowl full of oil (im pretty pissed off but well ...i think to myself at least that spanner will never rust again! haha!)
...anyway replace the filter screwed on well... have a break(worked up a sweat from all that) ...i washed my hands, cleaned up a bit, got the rags under the car and mopped up the oil but i still left the old oil under the car for some reason
...i then pour 2litres of oil stand back and watch as it runs all over the drive ...yeh you guessed it silly me forgot to put back the sump plug!!!!! :ban:
...i spent a good hour trying to clean that up with a jet wash and various liquids including Cif, fairy liquid and paint thinner!!! and the oil is still on the drive [:@]

so whats this got to do with a mk2 i hear you cry ...well funny thing is i done similar on my 1.4s mk2 ...didnt put the sump nut on and wasted 500ml of oil ...then realised. :p

oh anyone know how to remove oil from drives then please let me know.

yeh was funny over the years reading what others have done (yes including me) ... i remember someone pouring oil in the hole at the top thinking its for the gearbox and then burning out the clutch hehe

done that with the cupra ...well not me ... i tried to not touch the cupra too much, i slightly rounded it but my mechanic proper smoothed it off lol.
got someone else to weld a nut in its place.

on my 1.4s i needed a new gearbox ...got "a vw specailist lol" to fit it for me ...it wouldnt go above 70 without redlining!! :ban:

oh by the way them lock repair kits off ebay work well i bought one and fitted it today ...wondering if vw do the parts though because its only a few pieces? hmm.

 ima go for spark plugs next ... wonder if i can make my hair stand on end this time.

done similar thing :(

drained oil, watched it piss everywhere and miss the target!!

wiped it all up, changed filter and spilt more oil everywhere, then when putting sump plug back on, managed to get it cross-threaded :( while undoing it, dropped sump plug into old oil container !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Why do manufacturer's build cars/engines to make as much mess as possible while changing oil/filters??

can't remember which car/s did it, but a remember pi$$ing oil from the filter all over the exhaust!!! god did that stink:( for ages!!!

re- removing oil on the drive, try bleach and brake fluid mixed together.

won't get rid of the oil, but makes a lot of smoke and will at least bring a smile to your face

Haha. When i changed the oil in my cousins 1.4 mk2, we emptied the whole 5 litres into the engine so that we could use the new container to put the old oil into lol. 2 days later at my mechanics, i was telling him how proud i was that i did an oil change and asked him how big the oil tank was as it swallowed up the whole 5 litres. At which point he had a go at me and promptly removed the excess oil hehe.
