I drove big powered petrol turbos: imprezas, new focus RS etc. and now all I have is my leon FR 170 TDI and I don't hate it. I'm sure a sneaky remap to 200+ would liven things up too

I've also got an A3 2.0Tdi Quattro s-line 170bhp. Costs about £70 to fill up and I can be about 600 miles out of the tank too...it's got a bit of poke to it too and a remap will take it to just over 200bhp. Worth a look as there are some good deals out there!

Since getting the 335D, I'm not really driven the Cupra :( I was always very anti Diesel, but this cars blown me away! What about a 325D? They have the same engine as the 330D, but are de-tuned.

My parents have had a fair few bmw's over the past few years, and seem to have settled on the 330d being the ideal compromise. My dads 330d coupe does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, but still acheives 42mpg average and he only drives 5 miles through town to work and back!

Hate BMWs but gotta say that the engines look top dollar. Just be prepared to sit for ages waiting to get out at junctions if you buy one :p

Anyone else gone from a fast petrol to a dirty diesel and not hated it??!

I had an old Sierra, 20/25mpg, then a Subaru, 20/30mpg, to my PD140, the Leon is built better than both, much softer ride, does 40/45mpg so I can live with it, but when I do get into a petrol I realise how smooth a petrol engine is, when I change cars next time I'll buy petrol because only doing 10-15k/year does not justify dpf problems & IMO the new 2015 diesel regs will kill diesels off, added to that petrol's are becoming much more efficent. .

I wouldn't go diesel, just pick up something like a Octavia estate, the 1.8TFSi should give reasonable miles per gallon, certainly 45 on a run. I've had a Passat TDi 140ps as a hire car and that cracked 69mpg and was a very nice car, much more comfortable than the Cupra with plenty of space.

However you could do what i've done, I paid £800 for a 206 1.4, it gets over 40mpg and has a towbar, i then stick the bikes on the back of it. Having said that i'm getting the urge for a 500 Abarth, I could never go back to diesel.

Not sure you even need an estate if you had an octavia. I've fitted three plus three bikes and kit into mine for day rides away.
