I love EVO's, but for me, they are just too focused. Naf interiors and horrendus running costs put me off. If it was purely a track/weekend car maybe, but I use my car everyday.

RS4's - now your talking. Again the downside is the running costs, and the looks are a little 'bland' for my liking.

Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, so each to their own.

The downside im facing now is similar to that faced by Cupra owners - I call it the 400bhp blues LOL!

Baisicly, Ive done everything to the RS I can do without it getting REALLY expensive. I have to start spending 1000's now to get a few more BHP.

I almost bought a Vauxhall (Holden) VXR8 6.2 - An awesome car, but some running issues and again, horrendus running costs put me off. I do still fancy one, and tuning one is not cheap, but in a different leauge power wise. A 7 grand supercharger conversion may sound expensive, but its a cheap, reliable way to a 640bhp car.

If I thought I could take the hit on fuel/tax/parts costs, I would chop the RS in for 6.2 litres of supercharged Muscle car. Again, many would say that to be foolish - you could get an M5, RS4 or almost a new M3 for the same money, but I just dont like conforming to obvious choices. I like somthing a bit different.

Well said! Exactly the way I think too, just a shame I don't have enough money to properly indulge myself! That said hoping for Stage 2+ next month...

Surprised at that, considering they basically have the same engine as the one you have now. Thought you were going for a Beemer?

Get what makes you happy. Its not all about straight line speed

You will notice the running costs of an Audi RS car over that of the Cupra if you enjoy using the full performance most of the time.

Tyres, brakes costs are stupid, and well fuel prices keep going north.

I recently sold my Evo X RS and bought a IX FQ 340 to use as an everyday car and will put the Cupra up for sale shortly. Running two cars was a luxury rather than a necessity so I considered all the (affordable) options in running one car everyday, including the Focus RS, and kept coming back to an Evo. The X RS wasn't that practical for everyday use....no ABS, 5 speed box, no xenons and limited boot space because of the battery/fluid bottles located there. I tracked down a low mileage IX that's had some engine work and is running a lightly stressed 400/400 which makes for a very quick road car.

For me the reason for choosing another Evo was exactly because it is a much more focused car to drive. Every time you drive it feels like an event which I didn't get with the Cupra. Driver involvement is on a different level plus you can use more of the performance more of the time compared to a FWD car. Sure the running costs are somewhat higher....fuel and tax but beyond that (if you resist the urge to modify it further) there's not a huge difference if you use a specialist to service the car. Evo's are very reliable if looked after properly.....this is my 4th Evo and I've only ever had one major mechanical problem in all that time, apart from that its just been a question of replacing wear'n'tear items and consumables. There's a thread on the MLR about an VIII MR that's just turned 150k miles with no mechanical issues beyond expected wear'n'tear/consumable items. The fuel costs over 150k miles will have been significant though :D

150k fuel costs lol lets sat on average over teh last 4 years the price of fuel has been 120p/l. lets say he averaging 300miles to a tank and the tank size is 50litre.

Tank of fuel = £60 for 300 miles

150,000 miles / 300 miles to a tank = 500 tanks of fuel

500 tanks x £60 cost of a tank of fuel = £30,000

wow....lol

I have mentioned on another thread that I have the option of buying my K1 at the end of the year at a good price, or giving back to the finance company. I am planning on buying and part ex-ing against an as new and as low mileage as possible RS. I have been pondering other cars but keep returning to the RS as my first choice. My justification is I dont do many miles so the running costs should be ok. I think that at the end of the day, If you want a particular car then go for it. You'll always have people who like/dislike whatever car you've got. I had it when I first got my K1. A few people said "boy racer car" etc, but at the end of the day I loved it. I just fancy something different now. Also, I think I'm having a mid life crisis!!! I'm 40 next year!

I still think there must be an issue with your k1 if youre only getting 26mpg from it!

You could well be right mate, but it runs absolutly fine, and has been for a recent service with no fault codes, and been back at Seat for warranty work. I check my tyre pressures regularly too!

It doesn't do many long runs to help that figure and im not known for my lazy driving style, so thats not gonna help, but my point being that the RS gets driven in the same manor, on more or less the same route and produces bigger numbers. Strange, I do admit.

TBH +/- a couple of MPG either way still wouldnt make that much difference anyway as the big hitters of tax, insurance and parts (after the warranty is up) are still pretty much the same.

I'll see what MPG figures the K1 returns after its remap on Sunday!

I only get average 27.9 mpg on a tank. My commute is 10 miles each way mostly motorway so 26 is not far off. I give it some beans when I can as well[B)]
