Thinking of a Leon

Prevously had an Altea XL and thinking of coming back to the fold. Currently have Hyundai IX35 but looking at Leon, Civic or poss Focus.
95% of time and in car myself but other 5% could involve carrying a black Labrador or 3 passengers. So flexibility in a car is required (but don't want a Tourer).

Civic is great and seats are very flexible with what they can do including a flat load space when folded. Had a look in a Leon today and when seats are folded there is a definite lip between boot and folded seats.

I love the Civic and Leon both for different reasons. Civic looks very hi-tec, lots of curves and digital displays etc . However I liked my Altea and the Leon is very similar. Looks sturdy if maybe a bit "boring". But love those LED lights.

So a few questions if you don't mind

1. Anyone else went through this choice and why did you pick the Leon?
2. Currently do 12k miles a year and my last seven cars have been diesels. But thinking of the 1.4 petrol as well. Is the diesel worth the £1000+ premium it seems to command on second hand prices? Anyone had DPF or DMF issues?
3. I would be happy with the SE spec but I definitely want rear parking sensors and these only seem available on FR?
4. Sad as it sounds, the biggest enjoyment I see when driving is when I have a high mpg - assume SE 1.6 diesel is best choice to give me this?
5. What does Tech pack give you?
6. What is the general consensus on the forum of mpg you would expect with 1.4 / 1.6 / 2.0?

the 2.0 and the 1.6 are around the same MPG if not a little better on the 2.0!!

for the for 2 litre power and economy all the way

as for the 1000 quid premium well that depends! I would prefer a diesel to a petrol because of the torque

Is the ride much firmer on the FR to the SE? Used to have a Fabia vrs in Red and the Leon 2.0 FR in red reminds me so much of it! But I am now in my late 40s and prefer a comfy ride to firm and feeling every bump!

The £1000 plus second hand premium makes little difference as it will be worth more when you come to sell it. I have a 2.0 fr tdi and getting 55 to 60 to the gallon under normal driving with a bit of fun thrown in now and again. Never had a dpf issue,never seen the light on either.The extra torque from the diesel makes a much smoother and relaxed journey in my opinion. After having diesels for the last 8 years and seen how far they have advanced I would never have a revvy thrashy petrol again

Whatever model you choose, a dealer can fit rear parking sensors colour coded to the body colour for £249 or whatever you negotiate for the package.

Tech pack gives LED head and tail lights and sat nav
A convenience pack gives auto lights and wipers ( look for an 'auto' position on the headlamp switch)

I recently traded my 1.4 act FR and was getting around 34mpg overall, this was short journeys of about 2 miles twice a day to work and motorway/town driving at the weekend.

brother has the 184 diesel 2.0 FR and its a beast on performance from a Diesel and returns about 49mpg on a good motorway run of 20 miles to and from his work.

whatever engine you choose you will love the car. I was a lover of ford for years until the mk3 leon came out and haven't looked back since.

I have 184 fr.

Long mway trip I get around 50mpg.

Mixed driving to work I get 60mpg.

FR handles nicely but rides well too. Its not crashy but it has a nice firm feel. Much better everyday set up than my Impreza and the Corsa I had before the Leon.

I would say a 1.6tdi FR is probably a good choice for the op.
