Thirsty 1.4

Hi, yesterday I drove about 140 miles in my ibiza 1.4 1999 and it used half a tank of fuel. I was driving 70/80 mph most of the way. Also on a morning I start it up before I get in it and when I come back outside I can smell a strong wiff of petrol. Has anyone else experienced any similar problems? Am I right in thinking this could be a lambda fault? Any other suggestions welcome. Cheers, Jon

Thats bad if ur doing motorway driving. the ibizas fuel level readout is abit iffy to be honest, once mine gets to half a tank theres only 70ish miles left in it.

the 1.4 is actually above its efficuent range once you go above 60mph so the faster you go, even if its steady, itll drink petrol like its going out of fashion.
how many miles do you get out of a tank?

I thought about that, but I know the tank was definately full, then I put another 27Litres in it this morning.

Its only in the last week ive been working out mpg, as I have really just got used to the car. Id say about 300-350 to a tank.

350 was the norm for my 1.4 really dropped to about 160 once I'd finished with it

imagine how you would feel getting 200-220 out of a tank

300+ out of a 45 litre tank is decent enough, id not worry about it. the petrol needle is a bit random so until the needle is pretty much indicating empty, then judge how many miles youve gotten against the nature of the driving, ie lots of town traffic or all motorway etc.

Does anyone know how much a new lambda sensor is, as I cant find them on GSF or Euro. I might try this as the car has nearly done 100k.
