Hi all, first post on the forum though I've lurked for a while.
I've had a 06/55 Leon TFSI Sport for a while now. At the weekend I suffered a puncture in the NSF tyre and was forced to crawl about 400 yards to a garage. Ended up changing both front tyres and rotating them to the back (rears, now fronts, are Pilot Sport 3s and the new rears are Eagle F1 A2s).
Since having my tyres changed I've noticed a few things that are worrying me. Firstly, there's a vibration through the wheel at "motorway speeds" which subsides below and above this speed. I presume this is likely to be an improperly balanced wheel, as that's usually what causes this kind of vibration.
More worryingly, I'm now noticing what can best be described as a "ticking" sound from the NSF wheel under full lock. I'm loathe to use full lock under normal conditions but my work car park is extremely tight and there's a great deal of lock-to-lock steering required to navigate it at times. The sound seems to be rhythmic and dependent on how fast I'm travelling, and almost rubbery? Doesn't really sound like a "grind". It happens on both hard lock to the left and to the right.
My first though is outer CV boot. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I've seen a few threads on the forum so far with people with similar symptoms and that seems to be a reoccurring issue. If so, what are the costs of a replacement? I'm not hugely confident or capable with the spanner (you should see the pig's ear I made of changing my diverter valve) and lack space to work properly but I've got a great local specialist. It doesn't seem too severe at the moment but I'm concerned it will get worse with time. I can't see any tears in the rubber lining or anything of that sort, but given my lack of access I can't see all of the CV joint anyway.
Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.
