Hi all,

My 2013 Leon FR is vast approaching the 5 year period and will soon be due its timing belt under the 5 year or 100,000 mile rule.

My engine is apparently different to most where the waterpump is not ran off the same belt as the timing belt. Now I know most say to replace pump when the belts getting done due to labour and them being in the same location.

Would it still be wise to replace the pump at same time or can I save myself some coin and not worry about it?

If it is run off the cambelt, not separately off the other end of the camshaft, then definitely change it with the belt.

I've always been advise to, the cost of the pump is minor compared to the whole belt change (or the damage done if it fails) and you'll need to replace the coolant at this age anyway.

The reason they recommend changing pumps is because you're in there anyway, so it's not much more cost. And sure as hell, if you don't it'll fail.

@GTunney,
I have the same engine on my Skoda Octavia 3, !.4 TSI 103kw, code CHPA. In the maintenance manual, for our engines, it 's not specified this interval for changing the timing belt. Probably, the dealers and the guys from auto workshops know better than those who built the car and made the maintenance manual.

I can’t find anything like that in my actual car manuals. Do you have a link to that documentation?

My dealer done belt only as the water pump is easy to get it and doesn’t need some at the same interval. It is on the opposite side on my engine (1.4tsi)
