Timing belt time.

Well the time has come after 4 years (32500miles) to get the car all sorted out and running good as new again! Booked in on Thursday for a timing belt, water pump, cam Shaft sensor, coolant, brake fluid and a full service. All genuine parts for the peachy price of £600. Seems a good price to me. Also just got it back today from the wheel specialist edinburgh after
getting the wheels redone in gloss black!
 
They've recently changed the belt intervals to 5 years believe it or not.
 
But surely you don't pay for a service and then a cambelt change on top, it should just be a major service and the cambelt change included in the price surely?

I'm sure I've never seen £600 for a service when I've been to a dealers and looked at the pricing for service intervals.

Seems a lot to me but clearly it's not, glad mine has already been done, having said that even if it hadn't at that price I would not be taking it to a main dealer.

Lol nope!!!! Cambelt change isn't included in full service mate :confused:

Have a look for seats 'it's fixed' or whatever it is
 
Yeah it is a good price mate I have looked about and was getting prices closer to £750!!! Just wanna get it all done and then I can relax again for a while!
 
My LCR is just turning 4. I had the timing belt all tensioned etc plus water pump done and got new gearbox oil put in and a coolant flush and new coolant in for £395 by Andy at Automek. Top quality service as well :)
 
Sorry to hijack the thread but when does the water pump normally need replacing.

My cupra is 4 years old (30k on clock) and is going in for a cambelt change this week , however the seat garage have made no recommendation to changing the water pump ? I know if you get them done at the same time you obviously save money ... ?
 
seats pricing 299 for cambelt on mine, in the book 'fixed' 299. does that include water pump.

better still......ill ring them!
 
I don't think it does . The water pump change from seat is 229 (or 129 when completed with cambelt change)

In the maintenance plan it makes no reference when the water pump should be changed ...? Just states cambelt at 4 years or 40k
 
Water pump should always be done with the belt. The impeller is plastic and is designed to fail in extreme temps.

If Seat charge and extra £129 for the pump whilst doing a belt thats shocking. I got the pump from TPS for £62 and got £35 back when i returned the old one lol.

The coolant is £10 for 2 bottles, so thats £37 in total for the bits to do the pump. So..., are Seat really charging £92 to remove 3 bolts from a water pump and refit?? as its that straight forward when doing the timing belt!!
 
I thought the newer water pumps had the issue resolved. Still a plastic impeller but made from a different/stronger material?
